I know there are a few who have crafted their own "ram air" intake, but I'm not so sure how well they would work in deep snow.  

 

Personally I've gone through large drifts that have packed my lower valence and even some of the grill with snow.  I can only see this as a place for snow to plug as well unless it's in a spot (that I can't see from the picture) that wouldn't allow that to happen.

i believe it is removable so for the winter months i could take it off

I dont think that I would get that, What about when its raining out, and your driving behind a car or truck wouldnt it suck water?

Permanent reusable filter? As much stuff as thats going to suck in that location, You will need to switch the filter weekly. If I did do it, I would go with the B version. Get it a little higher off the ground. For $400 bucks I would be making alot of phones calls and emailing for info. Also, You would need to screen it to keep out bugs and such. One big Arkansas June Bug in the pipe and you are on the side of the road.
