2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers

Recommended Posts

I just finish building my bed light. I use two 20" LED light bar with magnetic back, it stick onto the side of the bed near the Bakflip rail. I pull power from the reverse light, so when I unlock, it stay on for 15-20 seconds. Just for fun, I made the cable a little longer than needed so I can use the magnetic back to stick under the tailgate and use as reverse light bar.

I put some high power magnet on the back of the light bar.

Here I wire tap into the reverse light.

This is the brightness with just two 20" light bar.

Oooooh. I thought you were saying you didn't like the new universal seal feature. But now it makes more sense. Couldn't figure out why that new feature would have been a deterrent. Either way, I didn't think you saying anything negative bro.

Someone on hear was debating between the revolver and mx4. You can probably explain the benefits of each, much better than I can. He would probably appreciate any insight you have on yours.

That was me - I just ordered the MX4 today, mostly due to your comment about taking care of the vinyl. I can always change if I need to down the road. I could always try both and sell the one I like less, assuming there's not a huge loss in value from being lightly used.

I think you misunderstood me, that was the reason I didn't choose the last generation of the Bakflip back when I bought mine in April........that was be a huge deal to me too.....it was one of the reasons I chose the Revolver back then.

I'm glad they fixed it with this new generation.

I just ordered the MX4, but I'd still like to hear your thoughts on the Revolver X2 for sure.

I knew after I re-read that.....that it didn't sound right.

I think the MX4 and Revolver are the 2 best covers out there right now.....With the 4th generation the Bakflip really got a ton better in my opinion.....It would be a hard choice between those right now.

Plus the customer service BAK has given me is hard to beat.....in today's world that is worth a lot if you have a problem.

I don't blame you, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Now that you can open and close the tail gate without touching the cover....the MX4 got a lot better in my book.....the old version you couldn't do that was one reason I didn't buy that cover back in April and went with the Revolver X2.

I think the vinyl on the Revolver will probably last for years and years and look top notch, but having it parked in a garage would make a big difference so it's not outside all day.

These are both about as low a profile as you can get.....from the side you can hardly tell I have a cover on my truck at all....plus the rail system doesn't cover any of the Chevrolet logo on the side rails....another big plus !

It would be hard for me to pick one over the other now.

Totally annoyed that I can't wash the painted lid for 90 days. I thought they were joking, but apparently they were serious. Can anyone recommend a good non-abrasive car wash soap, that I can use on it in the meantime? I was told by Century - no abrasive soaps and no drying it with a towel at all.

For you guys that have the MX4, how easy would it be to remove the entire cover if needed, instead of folding it up in the vertical position? I would like this cover, but also be allowed to completely pull it off rather easily when needed. Is it just a few screws that hold the cover on?

Personally I use Adam's Polishes Car Shampoo it's the best I have ever used and it's very gentle, but still cleans good.

Since you can't towel dry it, you should try this blower....I got one a few months back and love it !

You can use it to dry your whole cover spot free...My Dad has one he uses on the grille, mirrors and other stuff to keep them from dripping water for days, but I have found you can almost dry the whole truck with it !

Just search this below on Amazon.

I just installed the Bakflip MX4, and it is a BEAST.

Paging Dodgersfan...

Dodgersfan can confirm, but based on the install video, it's held in place at the front via a pair of hand-tightened fasteners. Should be no problem to fold it up, loosen those, and remove the cover (leaving the rails).

Edit: Why does the MX4 need a drain? I would have expected that on a roll-up that fits into a box, but not a flat cover. (bear in mind I haven't seen mine in person yet)

Ya the mx4 is attached to bed with those 2 knobs. Easy enough to take off when you have to, but I imagine it would get annoying to do on regular basis. Goes on and off quick, but takes a little time to square up. Guy in video does it really quick, but in reality it takes a little more time to put that back panel 1/8-1/4 of inch from tailgate. Then you have to keep it there while squaring it up on ur bed. Takes few minutes, Especially for those that are little anal and want it perfect.

As for drain, that's there because it's not 100% water proof. There's little spots water can get in the rails/channels. All the low profile folding hard covers I saw, (undercover flex, bakflips, extang encore, etc) all have a channel and drain system. I don't even have the drain set up. Didn't use drain tube in my old flex and I never got water in the bed. This cover seems tighter than that one, so I'm not going to worry about it. Never keep anything that fragile in my bed anyways.

The LOMAX hard folding cover has my attention. If it's priced right and doesn't leak light a sieve, it could be my new cover.

A new hard folding cover is about to be released by Access Cover called LOMAX. Go to their facebook page to view some vids of the cover.

Screen shot from one of the vids:

This type of cover isn't real popular around here, but here it is. I won't be baling any hay or helping people move. I do like it, but not happy that I can't go through the car wash for 90 days - something about the clearcoat/paint needs that long to fully cure, or whatever, and the brushes aren't good for it. So I'll just wash it by hand until then.

Care to say what that would run if I wanted the same cover in white also? Also how waterproof is it? Edited by Resqu2
