2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers

I have a factory installed plastic liner on the bed of my 'rado. Can I install a cover keeping the existing plastic liner or do I have to get a spray liner? I know it's a basis question. First truck. Thanks.

From all I've read you can. I've seen where you might have to do just a little trimming on the tail gate liner.

...and probably some trimming at the bulkhead (below back window) so that the cover seals correctly.

I don't want to drop an additional $600, otherwise that's the route I'd go. Hell, at that point I'd rather get the solid one painted to match. But I'm only going (willing) to kick in at most $100.

Fair enough, I knew the dealers sold them I didn't know that they sold them for that much more than buying directly from them.

I've called 2 other dealers and got the same response. "I don't know what brand it is" lol.

Maybe I should ask truxedo if they supply gm in stead of asking where they get them from.

Yea, I saw the videos of trifold removal, pretty simple. How much flap do you get on the highway with yours and is it noisy?

Mine barely flaps at all and I don't hear it either.

Rhonda Lance from truxedo said they make a truxport version for some GM applications.

I don't see many bad reviews for that. However the dealer is charging $575 for that when I can find it for ~$300. Guess they think the embossed bowtie is worth the markup.

Typical dealership pricing on accessories which is probably "suggested retail" price which is not "street" price.

Probably going with the soft trifold. Will sleep on it over the weekend. Dissapointed in the price gouging. If it was The lo pro qt, I'd get that over the trifold.

I was considering the hard folding from fold a cover however u have to cut the bed liner slightly to mount a bracket. Not good for a lease, especially if you want to keep the cover when you turn in the lease. Also you have to raise the cover to open the tail gate.. Doesn't seem to make sense. I too have to buy through the dealer and don't really know which cover to get.

Now I'm consider the soft tri fold as well. Seem to be the best for my needs. I have to purchase through the dealer as well and confused on which one to get.

The dealer don't seem to have much information on there cover.. It says that there are multiple versions for the soft cover which probably means multiple suppliers and the end user doesn't really know which he is getting...

You do not have to raise the raise the cover to open the tail gate. I have the FAC and I can open my tail gate with no issues. I can close the tail gate without raising the cover, but then the weather stripping is pushed in so I have to raise the cover slightly to get it to flip out.

The person I contacted at truxedo said they make the truxport for GM. I'm guessing that's the $330 soft roll up version GM has, not the $575 version I initially thought. I have no clue what the other two are. Nor does anyone there. I was thinking about buying both then returning the one I don't like lol.

I installed my F-A-C G4 Elite on my new truck yesterday (also had it on my 14 but left it on when I traded it in).

You do not have the open the tailgate when you open or close the rear panel, and you do not have to open the rear panel to open/close the tailgate. I think the website info you posted is for the other tonneau cover they make, not the G4 Elite. If I remember right that one has a tab that goes into a bracket on the tailgate to "lock" it. The G4 Elite doesn't have that since the 2014+ have locking tailgates.

Also, pjb0422, do you make your rear seal flip out flat on the top of the tailgate when closed? I always left mine curled under on my 14 and my 15 seems to be the same, I never had any issues with water getting in. On my 14 I could go all the way around with a flashlight from the outside and when looking from the inside you would not see any light coming thru.

Now, for my 15 here is what I have noticed:

I have the factory spray in bedliner, not sure if it makes a difference or not but the front panel seal doesn't seat as "tight" and I can see some light shining thru, not much but I see it. I tried adjusting the panel to lock lower for better seal but at that point I can only get 1/2 on the locking tabs, they don't engage all the way (still locked but only on 1st click instead of both clicks). Also, the center locking tabs are not as tight on my 15 than they were on my 14 so the panel has a little bit of movement if I go inside and push up (have to give it a little bit of force so I don't think it'll be an issue). Those are just some stuff I noticed from my install yesterday.

Oh and if you have a drop in liner you don't have to cut it, you can put it over the bracket, it's pretty low profile, I put my BedRug over it, didn't cut it around the bracket.

Can I open my tailgate when the cover is in the closed position?

For trucks without a locking tailgate: Because your Fold-a-Cover locks your tailgate as well, you must slightly open the rear panel of the cover in order to open your tailgate.For trucks with a locking tailgate: You can open the tailgate if the cover is in the closed position. However, the seal installed on the rear panel is designed to be compressed on top of the tailgate so you will need to open the rear panel prior to closing the tailgate.

Interesting, I never did that with my old one and never got water in with the seal curled in

I bought my FAC in 2014, so the integrated lock was not available. I did not know that they added that feature. If it were available and optional, I probably wouldn't use it as the tailgate does lock too. I'm not too keen about brackets on the tailgate as they tend to get in the way when loading and unloading bulky items. You have to constantly lift the item over the bracket or else it tears into it or rips the bracket off.

I always leave the rear seal flipped outwards. Seems to me to be less of a chance of water getting in. If you're not having any issues with it curled in, I wouldn't change what you're doing.
