2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping someone here has some suggestions cause I'm at a loss. I understand that most covers will not be 100% watertight but I'm not looking to resort to siliconing anything quite yet. I have a Truxedo Lo-Pro X15 with a spray in bed liner that leaks up front in the corners closest to the cabs. I called the company and was given a higher bulkhead seal but that doesn't seem to have fixed the issue. The leak appears to be at the corners on either side the bulkhead seal. It almost looks as though the bed is not joined all the way at the top corner. Anyone have any ideas on how to seal this or an easy-removal silicone product?

This is common on the newer trucks.  The bed rails are definitely a different height than the front of the bed.  When I bought my cover the installer told be about this ahead of time.  He just puts a piece of foam camper tape on the underside of each of the front corners of the tonneau to build it up.  I don't have any leakage with my Extang Trifecta soft cover.

I have a BakFlip G2 and love it!  If installed correctly there is no leakage.  Ok, maybe a drip here and there, like 2-3 around the entire truck bed but other than that it's awesome.  Looks great and keeps everything dry.  The BakFlip's have drain tubes in the front corners that you install and run to down through the hole in the bed so no water gets in and comes with the foam tape to lay down around the entire bed before the cover is installed on top of it.

Same situation with my X15 cover, I believe it is the bed that leaks, not the cover... I had a cover that was on top of the rail before and it was drier in the front corners (closest to cab) but, still leaked quite a bit at the tailgate... IMO the only waterproof covers will be the Undercover hinge open type... I think if you took silicone or something similar you could seal up the bed but, I haven't had the motivation to try yet..

Diamondback bed covers are what I use. You can look at my profile and the pics I have of one on my truck. A bit pricey,  but well worth the money. I went with the HD one.

Just ordered the Diamondback SE for mine! Should be shipping Sept 12th and can't wait. Bit pricey as you mentioned but nothing like it in my eyes.

I just installed a Lomax bed cover. Took me about 40 mins. I bought the truck bed seal kit as well but I haven't installed it yet.

I really like the security it will bring to having stuff in the bed of my truck. I can still add rails if need. The cover can hold up to 400 lbs which means I can load mattress or something like that on top and strap it to the rails.

Picked up an American Tri-Fold soft cover off tonneaucoversworld for $245 shipped for my 2018 Silverado LT Z71 Crew Cab SB. I almost went with the Lund trifold, but the price of this one reeled me in. It's pretty well built and has held up this summer just find. I'm happy with it for the price. I dont know if the latches and frame will hold up long term, but again- for $250 shipped I will be happy if I get 5 years out of it.
