2014+ Intakes (CAI) & Air Filters

Recommended Posts

AEM dryflows work great, way better option than K&N IMHO, I used K&N for years on everything, I know the proper oiling technique and service schedule, that said they are porous and suck dirt more than any other filter. They breathe great, but that's it. They do not filter any where near as well as the standard paper filters. If you don't believe it, just research. AEM all the way.

Guess I should have put this here instead of in its own thread. :)

I ordered the Airaid MIT and a stock replacement K&N filter for the stock air box this morning. As much as I like the look of the open element air filters I have read throughout that it's not good for the engine due to the temperature.

For those with this set up: how does it sound? Is it much louder than the stock intake setup?

I have that same set up and it sounds great. It still has some sound from the intake but not too much like some open element set ups.

I also have a catback exhaust, so the sounds blend together... but they sound awesome.

So I just installed the MIT on my 2016 5.3 I went for the initial test drive and it has severely reduced power and acceleration. The SLIGHT touch of throttle and it downshifts. Is this part of a relearn or is something else up?

Did you disconnect the battery when you installed?

And did you install a high flow filter as well?

I did disconnect battery , but still stock filter. A couple locals are running the tube with stock filter and no issues. Do I need to change?

I noticed a difference when I went with a high flow. Feels much better.

But You are probably in the relearn process.

I did a couple hard pulls and then just some normal driving and it's been fine ever since.

I just ordered the Volant 155536 variant for a 2015 Silverado 5.3. how do you like yours? I don't have a cat back on yet but I am curious to see how it sounds compared to the stock w/KN filter I have now.

have you had any whistling or other sounds from it?

Also did you notice any big changes to acceleration?

I also noticed a few people in 2014 talking about fitment issues. Has anyone recently experienced that same issue? I am hoping they have updated or fixed issues since then.

I just installed the Volant intake for my 15 Silverado LTZ Z71 5.3L. only took me about an hour to installet, which surprised me since it was my first time installing anew aftermarket CAI.

pretty simple install, I am very impressed and pleased with the sound of my exhaust now. it sounds like I have a truck finally. I took it for a few miles drive after I stalled to see if there would be any whistling or any other issues. I did not have anything like that happen, only a nice growl when I accelerate and a slight increase in air "swoosh" sound when I was accelerating from a stand still. I haven't been in V4 yet but right now I am very impressed with it.

It has the pvc tube? If so where did you get it? I'm going to have to have someone order it for me

I ordered mine here:

http://www.autoanything.com/air-intakes/airaid-modular-intake-tube

you can also get the Airaid JR kit that comes with a filter here:

I just got a K&N filter from autozone, but i've heard the airaid filters are good.
