2014+ Intakes (CAI) & Air Filters

Recommended Posts

K&N's breathe great, & they suck more dirt than anything else( I'm well versed with how to properly oil them). Choice is yours. nobody has ever determined how much the additional dirt that comes through effects engine wear. I ran them exclusively for years before there were other choices, now I run AEM bruteforce/dryflow and am very happy with the performance & filtering effectiveness. Hard to beat OEM if you just want a good filter, that filters well.

That's the firsts I've ever heard of k&n sucking in more dirt. Do you have a source to a study on that?

Looking to go to my local parts spot and get a k&n drop in air filter worth it?

If you never plan on getting an aftermarket intake and plan on keeping your truck for a long time, then it will save you some money from buying the paper filters each year. But you won't notice much of anything else.

Oh and those utilize the existing filter box right? I haven't look into those yet. But if they use the stock box then yeah I would get the drop in K&N. Also will want the cleaning and oil kit too.

Yes it hooks to stock air box I don't want to use a cold air intake when the restrictive part is the tube anyways... So I figured that filter and the tube I should get a tiny tiny but better mpg that guys claim to get and something to add to the truck

YeaH, That is old news actually. I've been arround our local off road community for 30+ years and it is just the gospel that K&N's are porous in nature and will pass much more dirt than almost any other filter. I used to use them in cars, bike's, trucks, then I would always find residue after being in dusty environments, or a long service period. Seriously Google it! it's been well known for over maybe 15+ years, K&N has awesome marketing. Not saying they don't breathe they best, they probably do, just there is a price for all that flow. When I ran them exclusivley my maf sensors (on pre LS vehicles) were always dirty (not oily - I know how ot oil them). OEM is prob. the best filtering.

. Thanks for your input. AFE momentum on the way! I've had tons of open/hot air intakes before so I'm glad to be back using AFE and this enclosed/cold air intake.

No problem at all, you'll be happy with it. I have no regrets at all

Installed the AFE momentum today. Very easy install. Everything fits and seals perfectly.

Went for a test drive. She really growls at about 50% throttle. Love that sound. I already had a huge improvement to throttle response with the Blackbear tune, but now it's even better. Great product!!

Glad you like it! The growl is a very nice sound!

Question, I noticed you left the plug in the box for the front air scoop? I removed mine and cut a hole in the thin plastic flap on the truck to allow airflow to come in from the grill area as well.

Oh yeah I took out the plug right after taking the pictures. Since it's cold outside I figured I'd keep it off. I'll look into doing what you did too.

Well looks like the Airaid MIT is the best bang for the buck. Catch can and clean side spearator this month, Airaid MIT next month!

The Volant I had on my 2008 Frontier really opened her up and growled. Paired with a Banks Monster Exhaust she would yell pretty loud at WOT. I probably won't put an exhaust on this truck, at least for a few years, but I'm looking forward to replacing the stock shoe box.
