Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

2014 Silverado non-bose LTZ.

I can tune to a station and then switch off the HD option but if I change stations and come back to the original the HD function resets it self. I have no way to permanently turn off HD with out using a hammer?

I can not turn off HD and it will stay off.

KCG, is there some way to contact me directly? If so, I can send you one of each of the boosters as I don't use them. I will also check to see if the one in the small plastic box actually passes AM. It is a little cloudy right now and I would have to look at them again. Yes, it is the one with the switch that burns up the resistor when you apply power, easy fix though. Funny, that is the type I used back in the late 60s with my first under dash FM radio! I've been working 12 hour days this week and haven't been looking at emails.

I tried this on mine, and the HD station didn't come back until I turned it back on. Not sure why yours would act different.

AH, I just ordered one before I saw this, thanks for the offer tho. I ordered the one with the switch. I hope it works without having to pull it apart.

We have a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ and a 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500. The FM reception in the LTZ is terrible.
We can sit side by side with these pickups as well as with our son's 2007 Silverado and his 2010 Chevy 2500 and
the LTZ cannot pick up the same radio station. It is very frustrating. Is this issue getting any attention from
GM? I have not contacted our dealer as yet but it is not acceptable. We live a ways out in the country and have
not had this issue with any of our other GM vehicles.

Have you not read any of the posts in this thread???? There is no fix and there will not be one unless you want to go with an aftermarket solution or a booster of some sort. I've got the same issue with my 2014 and though I don't like it I am living with it. Funny thing is that my 2014 will pick up more stations than my 2002 did but they sound pretty bad most of the time.

  • 2 weeks later...

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I FINALLY after 3 years and 2 months have a fix for my horrible radio crackling sound. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT. (The SLE trucks didn't have the problem as they didn't have the BOSE) Since day 1 my A.M & F.M radio has been awful. A horrible crackling noise in the speakers. MP3 or Satellite radio was just fine. Only Radio stations. Over the years they have replaced the speakers, antenna, changed settings and no fix. I wasn't ready to give up. A month ago I escalated the issued to GM customer care again as my dealer never had a fix in 3 years. Long story short, customer care said there was no fix and offered me $2,500 owners loyalty credit for new vehicle. No thank you... If I buy new again it wouldn't be GM.

I had enough. I wrote a letter and send it FedEx to the CEO of GM. 3 days later I get a call from a woman named Reisha in GM Corporate office. She was FANTASTIC! She called my dealership and got in touch with engineer team again. She called me every 2-3 days with an updated even if there was nothing to report. I was then told to go to my dealership and they needed to do an update to the program on my truck. I was told it would take @ 1 hr. The last updae GM put out was March 2016 for the radio issue.

I have taken it in 2x since and they never tried this.

Well, I took it in this morning and within 1 hours they downloaded the 2 updates to the truck. I got in and all my presets were wiped out so I knew they did something. I instantly noticed my FM station they had it on sounded very clear. (I'm here in Houston, TX so there should never be a bad clarity situation with a major station.) I then turned it over to the AM station (610am and 790am here in Houston) and it sounds SUPER SUPER CLEAR! No crackling sounds, just perfect! I couldn't believe my ears. I wasn't optimistic this would fix the problem but boy was I wrong!

I didn't receive a service sheet or anything so I'm not exactly sure what the update was. But I believe they said it was last update GM put out was MArch 2016. It had something to do with updating the radio and downloading something.

All I can say is WOW. Finally, 39 months later I can listen to AM and FM radio without it sounding like a chalkboard. I can't wait for my evening drive home and what now feels like my "New" again truck. My faith has been restored in GM!

It's 5 O'clock and time for me to leave work and listen to my Houston Sports AM station in pure clarity! Adios!

Could you, at your leisure, go back to your dealer and find out exactly what this update is? An identifying number or tech bulletin? So the rest of us can go to out dealers and ask for that specific update. Just saying I want the march update probably won't hack it. Thanks.

Thank you for the update what dealer. I'm in Houston and have the same radio speaker crackling.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I use GAY GMC in Dickinson, TX. They are the one who fixed it.

I went back to my service agent and asked him the name of the specific update as I had a friend of my who had the same issue. He didn't give me a specific number or anything, but this is what he replied via e-mail.

"They have to go into programming and try to program radio based on program in radio, if has latest update it will tell them not to update."

I know he didn't provide a specific bulletin number or anything, (I asked for bulleting # or I.D number)

I'm sure if you go in and say you want to make sure you have the latest update for your radio any dealer should be able to check. I had (2) different updates done to mine. I knew they did something before even hearing the radio because all my presets were deleted. It took 1 hr and worked like a charm! Can't believe it took 3 years to fix but glad it did. AM and FM radio now sound crystal clear and no horrible crackling sound.

I hope that helps!
