Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

Since you have a good relationship with your dealer ask them to contact the GM DMA and ask for trade assist. I don't know how much it would take to meet your needs but I have seen $3-5,000 reported. The higher number might be a last resort before GM has a buy back.

They have the DMA coming in a week or so, both the service manager and the sales manager are going to speak with him in my behalf.... Who knows, they may still have my truck there since it's going back in on Tuesday. This will be time #5 at the dealer for these issues, it is the last attempt before I file lemon law.

Even with a trade assist of 5k it would still cost me 9k to get out of it, and stay with a comparable truck. And honestly the only way I'd really be willing to stay with GM is through a straight swap of collateral. I'd spend 3-4K to change brands and know I won't have these problems, I won't spend another 3-4K to stay with GM and possibly have them all over again

I got $40k from my dealer for my 2014 Sierra AT, I only paid $44k for the truck when I bought it brand new. I would inquire about the trade assistance, wont hurt to ask. I ditched the SRA's on both trucks as soon as I left the dealer, I literally headed right over to Discount tire and had Nitto Terra Grapplers put on both trucks. Got $500 for the tires from Discount and spent another $500 and ended up with a tire I like and that is actually an All Terrain tire.

Any news for our FM reception? One truck is almost gone even on local stations. Was talking to GM and they dropped me like a hot potato. GM has lost my future business. Any one who asks about my trucks I say they can't even get the headlights and radio right. Still see the professional grade ads. SAD! Now more recalls.

I'm Picking up my truck from its 5th repair attempt for the radio and vibration today. they finally decided to replace the radio, and didnt work on the vibration at all because last time they got it to 16 milli G's which is withing GM's made up spec of 22 milli G's. yet you still feel the vibration

Made a appointment to get my radio looked at and all they talked about was the new recalls that need done. They are avoiding my radio issue. Two recalls they cannot do because of no parts.

I called GM yesterday to start the buyback process, I straight up told them that at this point, I hate this truck and don't want it anymore, I've had the truck in 5 times for the same problems, and none have been fixed. Initially I was considering a trade assist and going to another GM to save money, but ultimately I decided peace of mind was more important than a couple grand. I wouldn't take a 2016 since I know those have the same issues, I suspect the 2017's will have them aswell since GM isn't doing a mechanical redesign until 2018 or 2019, then I never buy a first production run vehicle, so that means I would be waiting until 2019 or 2020 for a new vehicle. I'm not waiting that long, and I doubt they would let me anyway.

I should be hearing back from GM Between Monday and Wednesday (their 48 hour time frame). Where I will have to tell them that I decided that I can't bring myself to risk having the same problems on another truck so I need a full repurchase. I ran my numbers, and I believe I will be getting $47,400 from GM, and about 5,400 from recovering the sales tax, and excise tax I paid on the lemon, this gives me $52,800 then i need to pay the rest of the loan off, so roughly -$16,000 and that leaves me with 36,800 as the down payment for my new truck, I've already priced out exactly what I want in RAM, FORD, and TOYOTA.

At this point, I don't know which I will go with, all three have positives and negatives.

RAM:

+ great audio system

+ best FE in the 1/2 ton segment

+ drive lines have been great as of late

+ great riding truck

- I hate the amount of flecks in the black paint (incase anyone doesn't know what flecks is, it is metallic pieces in the paint, think of sparkles that kids use)

- again with the paint, they use a black pearl... it just has an odd look in my opinion

- Not the biggest fan of the rims they utilize, but I can always replace those

- The truck says RAM or have the RAM logo EVERYWHERE

FORD:

+ Workhorse of a truck

+ lots of great features and a pretty good audio system

+ black paint is good looking

+ pretty good looking rims

+/- Rides more like a truck than GM... unsure about this

- have had reports of vibrations issues as of late

- have had some issues with paint adhering to the aluminum panels

- were having issues with the left side cylinder heads (This was fixed if I remember correctly)

TOYOTA:

+ tried and true drive train

+ has serious balls for towing

+ fairly good JBL audio system

- worst fuel economy in the 1/2 ton segment

- body style is a bit round for my liking

Jesse, glad to hear your finally getting out of your truck. Don't worry about what the rest of us think about your future truck purchase, just go buy one you like.

yea, me too. unfortunately, this truck has driven me insane. I'm leaning towards Ford right now.

Nice like to hear from someone who has one

I assume you're referring to my last post. There are a couple apline replacements that will fit, but right now, I don't know if even those will work, as GM completely replaced my radio last week, and it didn't do anything to help.
