Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

This is how my dealer worked it too. They had to have my truck in person to use their diagnostic tool to check several things along with the hardware numbers. Then, they contacted the TAC, who authorized the parts. And then they called me when the parts came in and finished the hardware and software install. It was more than just a VIN lookup.

Same procedure for me too.

I have a 2013 chevy Silverado pickup that gets good radio reception. I recently bought a 2015 Tahoe that has terrible reception. Been to our dealer 3 times and they have talked to Chevrolet. They say there is nothing they can do. Seems like a hell of a lot of money to spend and not even get our local radio stations.

TJay has been working with engineers on a fix, unfortunately it didn't work. only fix i can see is going aftermarket and using adapters to keep of the vehicle systems working.

So today I got in the truck and no startup screen on the DIC or radio. After starting up, pressed the "on/mute" button and they both came on. Stopped in the store and when I restarted the truck, the DIC and radio were on, but radio would not hold the station...radio was on, pressed station button and started playing music, then it lost the station and just played static. Waited a few minutes, then presses station button again and it stayed. So, keeping an eye on this one...may need another radio...this is the replacement one that WAS working pretty good...

I've had that happen, my radio is always horrible, but I've had days where I can only get static no matter what station I put on.

I've also had days where I won't even get static, the radio just won't play anything, won't let me adjust volume, won't let me change stations, the whole unit basically just stops working.

I've even had one day where I only got audio out of the the speaker in the passenger front door, then next time I got in, it played through both the front and rear passenger door, then the next time I got in, it played through all speakers...

The entire unit is just a complete mess.

This is in addition to all of the other issues I have with this POS truck.... I really wish I never bought the thing

I think my issue is battery voltage related. Yesterday it was very slow starting even though it was ~50F and I noticed radio got better as I drove. Today, truck won't start...barely will crank and voltage ~9V...jumped using another car and she started right up. Voltage while running normal. Turned off after running an hour...won't crank and voltage back at 9V. Radio works fine after truck starts and runs. Not enough voltage otherwise. Tried to charge battery...no go...bad battery...off to Dealer on Monday.

Go tomorrow for initial visit for PI1288a. See how it goes? I can hear it now, working as designed. Will pick up stations in the southwest since they are made in Mexico.Thursday it would not pick up anything but static and I loaned my Earl Thomas Conley cd. I'll run out of highway before my radios are fixed!

Man that sucks! Not even 2 years on the battery! Never know about these new electronic nightmares (vehicles), something else could be amiss. Good luck with it.

It's actually a little longer than that. Truck was built in August 2013...took delivery September 2013. I can't see any date code on the battery with all of the stuff mounted to it, so ~2 ½ years, 13,000 miles? Still seems kind of short. I did have two occurrences where I left the Range AFM Delete plugged in too long without driving and it ran the battery down. Truck is garage kept, but most of my driving is short trips...I'll update tomorrow.

UPDATE: Dealer tested battery. Test low at 151CCA out of 720CCA. Replaced under warranty. In and out in 2 hours. I was able to jump start the truck and drive it to the dealer for service. With key in ACC position, voltmeter showed ~10 Volts. Would not crank and radio station would not hold. All working fine now.

My 2009 kept running the battery down. Replaced battery and didn't help. Ended up after two weeks of trial and error it was one of the made in Mexico power door locks. Happy trails!

Surprise,Surprise, Surprise. The word of the day is (could not duplicate).Used the same phrase for all concerns today. Radio, right rear wind noise and the clamps on top of the radiator. What's a dealer for?The best line was for the radio,no fix at this time GM is working on it.They now want us to wait until the dealer contacts us! They used document no.ID 4374649 which says cycle the radio/tuner fuse.I told them it's bad reception ! WOW! They want us to give up on our radios and lights and vibs and anything else that comes along. How could you not see the broken clamps on top of the radiator? Edited by WLC

Whoops, forgot the one which said only noise heard was ice and snow when trying to locate the window/door noise. Sad sad Sad

Man, I am sad to see this response from your dealer. On the radio, my service manager has known me for a long time and pushed the issue for me and used the example that my 2011 LT basic radio received stations much better than my 2014 LTZ Bose. I listened to the same stations and drive in the same places as before. And the radio worked fine from their shop because they are just down the street from the broadcasting tower, so they didn't bother trying to duplicate the problem. They took my word for it (besides I had complained about the reception several times).
