Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

Anyone think an antenna change will help reception ???

Been tried before...no change in general, although a few specific instances were helped...people said it helped their situation...we never received confirmation of a particular model that really improved reception.

I brought up the antenna several years ago, the engineers advised me the antenna is the same one used in the previous last 2 generations of the 1500 truck.

I have thought about seeing if anyone made an powered inline FM booster and seeing if I could set it up. I am still seeing some multipathing issues even with the new update, it is easier to hear/see on the non HD stations. So while the HD performance is better, the non HD stations losing sound quality (sounds like going from stereo to mono) is still happening.

doesn't SOUND good for us. Maybe they focused on the HD part too much and not reception overall. This fix will be out of reach for most of us. Truly a shameful situation for GM to expect us to accept the performance of our radios.Wonder what is next? Edited by WLC

This doesn't sound like the update I was looking for. If the reception is still bad then it's not worth it. I have an inline fm booster that helps but it's still not acceptable. Beyond frustrated!

Where did you get an inline booster from?

I read a ton of reviews on fm boosters and almost all were bad. The only one I found that wasn't was the one from Winegard. It's been discontinued so I found mine on eBay and paid like $60 for it. I had to use an antenna adapter because of the gm connector but no biggie. It noticeably helps but it's still not close to perfect.

the '15's don't have HD radio, this exactly what my issues have been. Losing all highs in the radio, becoming muddied, lacking volume. It sounds like shit. On another note, today I was listening to 101.7 The Bull (BOSTON) Carrie Underwood "Something in the Water" came on, and I was noticing clipping on some of her high vocals. the volume was only 1/2 to 5/8 volume, so it shouldn't have been the volume level. Which leads me to believe the receiver has an inadequate power supply, this could be part of all of the problems, but I tend to doubt the reception issues are related to the clipping.

Made appointment today to have PI1288a done on my radio.Appointments are 2weeks out! WOW! Anyways they would not check the hardware to have it on hand. That means two trips! Told my wife I had that warm fuzzy feeling when I walked out. See what happens in a month or so.

This is how my dealer worked it too. They had to have my truck in person to use their diagnostic tool to check several things along with the hardware numbers. Then, they contacted the TAC, who authorized the parts. And then they called me when the parts came in and finished the hardware and software install. It was more than just a VIN lookup.
