Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

^when you say new radio module, are you talking the HMI module behind the glove box?

I hope not the HMI module since some of us already swapped HMI modules for the navigation add-on and don't want to mess that up...

Alright guys, play nice.

I got an email the other day and a call from GM today. The new radio module is headed to my dealership and should be there today or tomorrow morning. Now the only bad thing is I am out of town until after the new year so I wont be around to have the new module installed or to test it out so that I can let GM know if it is working or not. Even if I could get in tomorrow it wont give me enough time to check the new programming and validate if the multi-pathing issue has been resolved or not.

GM knows at this point from me that this needs to be the correct and proper fix. I now have 2 years of my time invested in it and while I can appreciate that there may be some hurdles to jump thru since they are at the mercy of the supplier I really think they (GM) should have lit a fire under the suppliers butt to get this fixed long ago. I advised the GM executive board today that if the fix does not work that GM can have my truck back via buyback and I will order a 2016 truck and then they will have their very own test truck here in Oklahoma to continue to use at their mercy.

This wouldn't be so bad if the manufactures didn't wrap everything into one item, now you can even swap the radio out to fix the issue via aftermarket. The truck has been awesome other than this nagging issue which is even more sad in my eyes.

What will the rest of us get if the fix doesn't work. We have sub par radios for two plus years and candles for headlights. Hoping for the best.

Maybe if GM spent a little less money on advertising, they could actually make a good vehicle again... seeing all of their commercials about how they are the best rated truck drive me insane. Fix my mother F*cking truck, then maybe I'll give them some credit

I finally brought the truck in for the other recalls, They totally blew me off on the radio, stating this was normal...

Not good...

My 1993 F-150 must be abnormal. It will bring in stations much better than the 2014's. Remember GMC's are professional grade! Go Bengals! Another GMC commercial. Engineered by GMC! Where did they go to school?Oh well. Upgrade is comming. Yea!

Is yours a '14? You know (and they should know) there is a hardware/software fix. It seems it's a toss up though whether it makes a difference. Definitely made a positive difference on mine.

If nothing else, get customer service to help with this.

My 2011 Silverado had much better reception than my 2014...the 2011 was NOT HD, but received better.

There is a TSB listed in Sandys Blog that says the dealers are supposed to say that HD radios fade in and out as normal operation. What helped me is that I printed off a copy of the update TJAY posted. My dealer service manager attached it to my work order and the tech referred to it when he called the TAC...I don't think either of them would have known about it...my service manager also couldn't explain why the same stations that I received just fine in my 2011, kept fading on the Bose radio in my 2014...they are now much better after the updated hardware and software.

What type of hardware update did you get? Had mine in 4 times they never did a hardware update just software.

Thank you

The dealer replaced my radio module and updated the software. According to the TSB, depending upon VIN and part numbers installed, some required hardware and software updates, while others were just software. Mine is an early build and required both. Still not perfect, but much better.

I don't remember for sure, but fairly certain the pre '14 builds need the hardware and software, and '14 builds just the software.

My service manager said that it just depends on RPO and module par number because they used different runs between MX and Ft. Wayne, but that is a fair rule of thumb.

We will waiting on a report from TJay74 and the info needed to get our reception problems fixed. Hope it is better than the headlight fix. Already spent a ton of $$$$ to get a truck safe to drive at night in the rain x2!
