Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

Ok so status. My truck been i shop since Monday. Had to have the spark connectors fixed for check engine. Anywhow. They have been on and off the phone with gm and trying to figure out the module thing. Finally they said yes I need a module. So then yesterday. They said trucks still not ready that they were on phone with gm and goin to give me a entire new radio. What's the deal ?

Dropped my truck off Thursday and referenced PI and mentioned the FM sucks and HD is in and out when driving. They then called and said they had to order a new radio and reprogram with latest software. Got it back last night and has been good so far. Also a new trial of XM radio, traffic, wx, etc!

Great. Sounds like that's the new best method of approach as opposed to just the module

I don't believe it was ever just a hardware change. Some got the software only update because they already had the latest module. Others (like me) needed both the hardware and software update. Pretty sure the radio modules do not have software "out of the box".

Radio update has been a blessing so far. I drove in a few known trouble areas with a particular HD station and no hiccups whatsoever!

Thank you GM. It took a while, but nice and thanks for the extra 3 months of XM traffic, wx and Howard Stern.

That would be correct. Radio replacements almost always need to be programmed.

I got another email this weekend, they are finalizing another software patch from what I was told and then it will be onto the validation phase.

Fingers crossed TJay :)

got my truck back, they had about 6 recalls they did, in addition to the new Radio unit, I did get a new xm trial subscription with. they also put a new battery in truck for me, full service oil change and washed it.

what ive noticed. The FM reception non HD is not noticeably clearer, The HD is aquires quicker.

but the biggest thing ive seen improve is the POWER of the radio to the speakers. its much snappier and the BASS is waayyyy better than before. I keep the volume at quarter way up and you can feel it. the screen is also quicker responsive. so overall I am happy they did it.

XM sucks. Sounds like any Bose system. No highs, no lows. I just finished my buyback and my new truck radio still does some WEIRED things but if you can't hear the difference in HD and non HD then , well there is no help for you. Sonicaly( I think that might be a word) HD sounds much better. I just wish GM would perfect the technology.
