Recommended Posts

I found this youtube video showing a guy with reception issues in a 2014...kinda interesting.... if someone already posted this I will apologize in advance...

Just like mine. Dealer has been working on radio and seat for two weeks now. This is getting old. I think the dealer has had the truck one month at least in total this year.

Back and forth to the dealer is not what I'm going to do. Nor am I going to fight with them about trying this or that. It would just be a waste of time for all involved. The only thing left to try is the antenna cable, and I'm not sure I could just ask to have it replaced.

Yea, like I said before, something in this truck is causing interference. I don't think GM is really serious about fixing it. Edited by 14LTZZ71

Honestly I could really care less if the HD radio works but I would like am/fm....noimsayin...

See, that's what I don't get because unless you live in some podunk, backwoods area then you should care about HD Radio. The sound quality over FM and XM is very noticeable. Plus, some AM stations are available in HD. It's basically the same stations as FM and AM but 10x better. It's statements like this that made GM drop HD in the 2015 trucks instead of fixing it. They figure we're all too dumb to know better and won't miss it anyways.

Thinking back about the survey I answered some time back...didn't really ask about features and did't allow for comments. They seemed to only be interested in overall satisfaction with the purchase. It was a GM survey...

While I do have to agree with you that HD radio does sound 10x better (when it stays locked in), I personally cannot stand it going in and out. GM obviously does not want to fix the HD feature on these trucks thus the reason its no longer available on the 15s... and yes the HD radio on these trucks should work, but at this point I would be happy just having my fm reception come in clear.

I like many others can't stand taking my truck to a dealership, only to have them keep it for an extended period of time and come back with, "operating as designed". Its a complete waste of everyones time. Most of these dealerships use this line because they are incompetant and lazy...they simply don't want to dig into problems unless it is something blatently obvious such as a check engine light...I do understand that it would take a little time to replace an antenna wire but guess what, if thats what it takes to fix a problem thats what they NEED to do. This is why we have a warranty...

It just blows my mind that GM won't step up and just take one truck, rip it apart, find the problem and fix it...then they could implement this fix on all other trucks having the same problem...its called common sense....why aren't the GM reps on here reading all this information and reporting it back to the engineers? By asking us to PM our vins and mileage does nothing for the group of vehicle owners with issues...they are trying to treat every case as an individual rather than treating the problem as a whole.. If the reps are reporting back, have some transparency and let us know whats going on...if they did they would look like rockstars, not a shady big business...just sayin

I understand that issues such as vibration could be many different things, but to me everyone who posted about reception issues has the same exact problem...

After talking with the service manager while they were working on my truck I believe that the dealers and the different departments at GM are not communicating with each other. They recognize that there is a problem with the radio but I don't think they know how to fix it, which is why they are dropping the hd radio from the 2015 trucks. I have been watching the performance of the radio closely and I believe the problem is when the radio determines the hd signal is not strong enough and switches back to regular fm with static and background noise. I also have observed that it takes a long time to lock on to an HD signal. I drove a loaner(gm traverse)with a colortouch radio and the HD worked perfectly. Since I have a new radio module and the software update the problem may be in the antenna cable. If someone has information on an alternative cable please post the info and I will see If GM and the dealer will try it on my truck. Can someone post a picture of the antenna cable.

Edit: What is HD switching on or off? It's in the FM radio menu.

I believe it will NOT switch between non HD and HD if this is off. From the Silvy Infotainment...

"If the channel is broadcasting HD Radio Technology, the radio will automatically switch to digital audio, indicated with an HD Radio Technology logo." It also says..."If the HD Radio signal loses reception while listening to channel HD1, the radio will go back to the main non-HD Radio channel."

So basically it turns off HD radio? Why can't they just say it turns HD radio off. I have this and don't have an update, at least not to my knowledge. Does everyone have this function, I was told that the HD radio off function was part of an update.

It will keep it off. Right now without the update, if you turn it off, then switch channels, HD is on again.

I don't get any better reception quality when I turn HD off. I posted earlier that static is even worse on some channels when I switch it off.

Not sure I'll even care about getting this update.

Yea, it definitely doesn't make it any better, on or off. What a shame, how long have we been using FM radio? At least get the FM reception right the first time. Why have HD when you can't even get analog FM reception working correctly.
