Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

It is very limited and is for safety, not reception issues...

From USA Today...
"The last recall involves radios that may not work in 57,512 pickup trucks. The radio is a safety issue which triggers a recall because the radio also controls the chime to signal seats belts are unfastened or that the key is in the ignition with the driver's side door open. The recall includes 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra pickups and 2015 Silverado HD, Tahoe and Suburban and 2015 GMC Sierra HD and Yukon and Yukon XL models. HD stands for "heavy duty." The problem is focused on the "base," meaning cheapest, radio. Technicians will reprogram the radio to make is operate correctly."

Left message for service manager on Friday, received another recall letter(transmission leak) tired of not having FM reception and having to drive 20 miles one way and waste half of the day on another recall. I am so unhappy with GM. Trans recall has been out since March and I had truck in to dealer for oil change two weeks ago. Asked about FM reception during oil change was told no news from GM. Toyota Tundra or F-150 looking better and better.

Obviously your service guys are not on the ball. Maybe look for another dealer. Trans line like you said has been in the system for the better part of two months. They should have told you about the recall and checked it when they did the oil change. Like my dealer did.

I have been a Ford Guy for a long time. My last truck (1999 Ford) was great. Only had to change out the Alternator? and brake pads. I replaced it only because a Nissan took it out. Nevertheless, Due to the Ford DEALERSHIP NOT BEING FLEXIBLE ON THEIR PRICE I ENDED UP WITH MY SLE. LOVE THE TRUCK BUT CAN'T THEY BUILD A BETTER RADIO FOR THE PRICE? AS MUCH HISTORY AS GM HAS HAD, YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD DO THINGS BETTER. I am frustrated when I go to my dealer and the service guy says I have been the only one to complain about the radio.

Its a conspiracy to get you to pay for XM / Sirius!

Yep, finally broke down and gave in and paid for xm. I was so tired of getting in my truck and being ticked off about the reception. You know what though xm really isn't that great. Due to the fact that it has reception is what relieves my frustration for now though.

Still have not heard back from service manager( called and left message on Friday) Just reinforces that GM and the dealer are not concerned about this problem. I guess I am not even worth a return phone call.

Judging from all the posts about dealers avoiding this issue, I'd guess that there's no fix and none on the horizon.

I'd change the POS out except I have no idea if it's even possible, since the radio, GPS, and other stuff is so integrated.

Believe me I understand and know the frustrations it has caused. I am hopeful that the engineers I am working with will have the validation testing done soon and then the update rolled out to correct the issues. I am with you, the only issue I've had with the truck is the radio reception.

Todd, I know you would probably have posted if there was an update, but just thould I'd ask...just curious

Folks, I saw this pinned topic and thought I'd post my experiences expressed in another thread on here as well (to share with the group and in case anyone from GM is reading this and might give a hoot)

They are still working on the updates and seeing if they work. Last email a week ago was that while some of the software updates fixed the issue it made other issues come up. So they are still working with the manufacture as far as I was told. I plan on checking in with them in the next week or so.

*** UPDATE ***

Heard from the Chief Engineer today, said they finally have a software update that works and should correct the issue. They are going to try and update my truck next week and then give me a couple of days to see if the update works.

I will follow up with more info once I get everything in place.

No problem, I have been bugging them at least once a week. While I hate to get irritated with the engineers who have been working with me, 3 months is long enough and I expressed my displeasure that if the fix GM came up with involved a process that could not be retrofitted into a 2014 and that the 2015's would be fine that GM and I would be talking about a buy back.

My thoughts are this, once the issue came up GM should have been all in the suppliers butt on the issue and their (supplier) should have been on scene correcting immediately. I understand making something over seas is one thing and then have it work in the USA is another, but there should have been a decent priority in this issues. I also think GM is now taking product quality issues more seriously, more so in light of the recent recalls. I think you will soon see more auto manufacture's follow suit as well in that process.
