Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

I have the 8" Mylink touch screen that plays MP3 Cd's but not DVD's. Can anyone here confirm if there is another Mylink unit that I could swap it out with that would play DVD's even if only in park? Just curious

Just an observation, while my Sierras FM reception is terrible compared to a Toyota 4 Runner its XM reception is a little better. Is the fm and xm receiver the same unit? I have been told the xm antenna is in the fin on the top of the cab.

We're dealing with a satellite signal, correct? If so that sucks and explains why on foggy mornings or rainy days which would have low hanging clouds, my XM/HD constantly acquiring a signal.

Technology is great, but sometimes it just complicates the simplest things.

HD is not satellite. XM is.

I'm listening to XM, and its a real crappy/rainy drive home today, and message on screen repeatedly reads "acquiring HD signal".

HD has nothing to do with satellite or XM. HD comes through your regular antenna, not the one on top of the cab.

My 2014 has terrible reception. Dealer says need GM to make a move. GM repeatedly says "sorry, but radio works as designed". Worst customer service ever.

I don't think there is much of anything that can be done when you're dealing with a satellite signal. Kind of like satellite TV. Bad weather really screws it up. Only difference is we aren't sitting still. We drive into unfavorable geographic/weather locations. Not certain, but I think I read somewhere that maybe some sort of booster could make reception better.

GM saying "works as designed" I think is wrong terminology. Designed to receive a satellite signal, sure! Only problem is, it doesn't work worth a crap!

Who and where in the hell did they test these things to come to the conclusion that they are A OK.

OK,but something is definitely amiss with HD radio too. If it's a radio wave transmission, I'm guessing a lot of stations don't have strong enough signals for HD broadcasting. I listened to the same stations in my 16 year old Silverado. No comparison as far as reception goes.

This new technology sucks big time!

Where are you getting the satellite signal from??? HD and FM are OTA signals, they have nothing to do with satellite (XM) signals.

GM knows of the issue, they are working directly with the infotainment vendor on what is causing the issue. I plan on touching base with the engineers in the next couple of weeks to see where they are at.

I was talking about XM. Sorry for the confusion. I hope you get some concrete answers.

It's not the technology, it's GM's hardware. HD radio and XM came in perfectly in my F150. This truck, not so much.

XM is fine. I'm just referring to FM radio reception. I don't plan on purchasing XM after trial, but can't listen to radio most of the time. If GM knows about problem and have people working on it, why wouldn't they tell their customers that instead of insulting us with works as designed?

If GM tells there customers "we are working on it" this is as good as saying we have a problem!

GM values short term no issue no fix over long term loyal customers!

This is a very bad business decision for long term....!

GM knows there is a fm signal issue with their infotainment unit, there will be a fix soon for 2015, but not for the 2014 owners.

This radio issue will get GM in trouble soon, as folks still want and still listen to fm alot.

My radios signal is so bad I can't stand to listen to it, static, stereo to mono cycling, and radio volume up and down as signal improves sometimes.
