Radio Reception Issues

Recommended Posts

If they are saying its the antenna cable causing the problem, how is antenna replacement a solution???

The radio company is saying there is a know issue between the radio and the antena. Whether its the cable or the antenna im not sure. If you read back and see some of my previous posts, you will see that 2 others on another forum replaced the antenna and fixed their issue.

ok cool. I guess then it could be the cable or the antenna. I saw some aftermarket antenna at pep boys, but they looked like the stock antenna.

any idea of what replacement antenna they used?

Brought truck in today for recall. Issues I want addressed are: led lights on knobs, slight vibration in steering wheel and fm reception. When I told service rep the fm reception might be due to bad coax cable he didn't really know what I was talking about. I said these trucks are known to have bad reception. He said it is the first he has heard of it. Service guy next to him said he knows of someone with same prob. Told him if they can't figure it out to give me a case number. Let's see what happens.

Thanxs Arnold. The company Director just called me and explained this in depth. It is the coax cable from the radio to the antennae mount. This is a problem in over 50% of the trucks, some worse than others. The loose connectors on the coax leave the cable un shielded and allows all sorts of electrical interference to get in. GM is being pushed to issue a recall or as needed service bulletin for the problem, may take some time. I am very pleased that they took the time to personally explain this to me.Thanks to all who participated.

I copied this text and gave to my dealer. My truck is currently there now for recall, also for FM radio reception.

Talked to the service manager at my dealer today and shared this with him. He said this is the first he has heard of this, but he only handles a third of the customers. He will check with the other service writers and let me know. They have a guy who is very active on their internal GM board who may know more. I'll post when I hear more.

Exactly, I hate it when people say 'who uses FM?"

I have no interest in XM, the sound quality sucks. While I could use my phone to sync music as well, I dont usually do that unless I am on a trip and losing stations. For a $50k truck the FM should work, I figure once GM gets enough complaints a fix will come out. Might be a bit but it will eventually come down the chain as a TSB.

In reading through this thread I only see where some have had success with replacing the Antenna. Has anyone tried an FM booster module like this one http://http://www.bestbuy.com/site/car-antenna-radio-fm-am-signal-amp-amplifier-booster-easy-to-install/1309368020.p?id=mp1309368020&skuId=1309368020

I'm not sure if our antenna's use the motorola type connector, but I guess this is an idea to try.

seems to be a lot of over expectation for GM (Government Motors) look people if you pay out 50k for a truck you are simply redistributing your wealth to the UAW guys hanging out at all the factories acting like they are working and laughing at your cilly butt spending all your money to support their alcohol and drug addictions and slacker ways. Go ahead and buy yourself two of these puppies, your complaints are falling on deaf ears my friend PARTY DOWN DUDES. LOL just joking around I really think they have a pretty awesome truck I just bought a 2014 Sierra and love the truck other than a couple of issues, one being the FM Radio reception (compared to my 2009 Sierra) and the other being the heated seats not heating up in remote start (compared to my 2009 Sierra) This FURDS are looking a bit better as I try to navigate through the dealer process these guys have been well trained to deflect any owner complaints.

Update: Fm worked fine at dealer today so working as normal was the response I got from service writer. They checked everything according to service writer. The truck was moved a total of 1km from the time I brought it in so it was not road tested. Anyway, worked fine for the drive home maybe they tightened something not sure but time will tell. The led issue was also looked at. They involved gm and gave me a case number. said some trucks work and others don't. Service writer said this is the first truck to have a complaint about this. I asked" first at this dealer" and he said no first for gm. I laughed and said this is a well known problem and certainly not the first time gm has heard this. I am in canada by the way.

Got truck back from dealer today for recall and FM radio rception issue. No fix for FM radio reception. I gave dealer the info about cable and antenna, but GM has not acknolowged that this is a problem. Starting to feel as if I am wasting my time with this issue. This truck has the worst FM reception of any vehicle I have ever owned.

I know people say what is FM, etc. But I prefer FM over XM, local news, weather, traffic info.
