Rain-X on rear window

Recommended Posts

As PUs do not have rear window wipers, is anyone using Rain-X on the rear window. I noticed the second day I had my new truck that I had more difficulty seeing clearly out of the rear window (when viewing with the rearview mirror) when it was raining than I did on my older 1997 PU. I did use Rain-X on my old PU's outside mirrors and found they did not clear/dry off as quickly as w/o the Rain-X. Seems as w/o Rain-X the wind from just driving cleared off the dew on the mirrors quickly where with Rain-X the fine water dropplets tended to stay on the mirror longer.

I think you'd run into the same problem on the back window. The Rain-X would make the water bead up, but you wouldn't have enough wind to blow them off the glass.

I'm a little stumped though as far as offering a suggestion for the issue. I've never had an issue with being able to see using the rearview of my 2000, 2008 or my 2014 trucks.

I Rain-X all of the windows and mirrors on mine, Water can bead up but with the glass being vertical it doesn't take more then a couple bumps for the beads to fall off and with the air tumbling behind the cab it stays clean.

Aquapel is a very good product. Will need more than 1 to do front and back windows

I have put DP (detailers pride) window treatment on my windows. Works well also, about $30 a bottle from autogeek but will do multiple vehicles

I recommend AquaPel in the applicator pack on all exterior windows. It is just short of a miracle product.

If you are going to try coating, i strongly agree with this statement. Good stuff!

Great stuff +1

When the window is clean the water will roll off with any driving vibration on a vertical window. After a lot of driving in adverse conditions like snow or dirty roads you may have to give it a go with a squeegee but it'll be have like the day you applied it after. It doesn't last 6 months if you are driving a lot or parked outdoors. It does breakdown with direct sunlight so reapply every 4 months and you'll never look back. I use it on every glass surface and it makes washing them so much easier too. Once it's on you can't wipe it off.
