same hitch noseing down due to more tounge weight. Had to use a 2 inch to level it back up and shift more weight to trailer axles to help level my truck as well.

every thing properly level with same trailer. Just goes to show you every load is unique. Hence why I use a adjustable hitch. It is a curt round bar weight distribution hitch rated a 14k. http://www.curtmfg.com/part/17007 This one quite a bist over kill for you but you can get adjustable hitches that aee not distribution hitches

Get a level & measuring tape. Only you can tell us what drop you need with your truck.

Because it's unique from all other 2014 sierra 1500's? I've got 17" to the center of the hitch receiver

You must be new to towing. The drop required depends on the trailer. Most people have a 2 inch drop on hand.

Don't leave it in the receiver either, it can rust up and get stuck.

I am new to towing. I was just looking for something that would take care of 'most' needs. Thanks for the tip on not leaving it in, I have one of those cute GMC logo plugs to put in there.

I picked up a stainless steel ball mount, 2-in ball with 4-in drop. I have both a 2-in and 6-in drops but they turned to rust even sitting in the garage.

I built, sold, and towed custom boat trailers for 8 years. The most important thing about towing (other than the obvious of not overloading your vehicle) is that the trailer needs to be level. This is what I use...http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/A/M/AM3411_1000.jpg

Looking to tow the occasional u-haul trailer nothing major or frequent, my truck does have the factory receiver and wiring.

Thanks,

Aaron.

Most UHaul use a 2in ball. There are a few that can take 1 7/8 or 2inch. Recommend hight is roughly 18 inches off the ground.

pay attention to the load rating on the ball and all your other trailer components. While it sounds dumb...they are not all the same. You certainly want the ball, the receiver and the "trailer coupler" to be rated for whatever you are towing... NOt a big deal with lawnmover stuff or light stuff, but once you start looking about what things weigh...it gets your attention.

A good source I use is etrailer.com.. they have a good selection of just about everything trailer/towing releted. I've bought a few trailer hitch receivers for my last couple of pickups there and they carry the HD balls and related components. Its never a bad thing to have be overly prepared...just too many people don't give it a second thought. Just something to consider.
