Plasti dip bow tie

Recommended Posts

Just finished it... Used a tooth pick to do corners .. Slipped and caught the bow tie... Peeled it all off... I have little patients

Lol, I know how you feel.

Dipped my grill (Pearl White: Base coat matte white > pearlizer then clear) went to go install it and when I was putting the upper bumper piece on, it hit the grill and....I had to redo it!)

Lol^^^ I threw in the towel for the day... Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.. It's just time consuming and making it perfect is nearly impossible!!!

I feel your pain especially on the factory originals rough surface. I ended up drilling them out, bought new black ones-plasti dipped them and all is good now.

If you don't mind the hassle, remove the tail gate and lay it flat.

Take out the front emblem and lay that flat too.

I had to be very careful of runs on the rear emblem but the front one I removed and that ensured no runs.

Just remember, LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT coats for the emblems.

You'll have to remove the grill. [Why not dip the whole grill now?? ]

Check out this thread for a How-To:

At this point, you can remove the bowtie by carefully releasing the tabs holding the emblem in place.

  • 2 months later...

when i did mine the other day i heated my garage up. It was at least 60 the whole time. I did 4 coats with 25-30 minute dry time between each. Mine turned out great I think.

Good luck!!

I wanna do mines, but I'm not to sure if later on down the line I wanna peel it off and it will give me a hard time ,because the Chevy emblem ain't a smooth surface, it has the grooves. What do you think?
