110 volt AC outlet

Recommended Posts

Not to be the grinch but a 12v inverter and USB power really defeats the whole $47,000.00 dollar vehicle with a 110v outlet starring me in the face everyday. I think maybe in the future they should increase the wiring size and breaker and make this thing more convenient/ usable.

Now with that said I haven't tried charging my laptop on the road yet but from what the op has said its a waste of my time.

Had issues with charging my iPad with the in dash usb outlets, I could here it going on and off. It did work through the USB in the storage compartment though, not sure if there is difference in amps between them or my cable is messed up. Didn't try the 110v yet, it sound like I should be ok from the comments here.

Kinda sucks laptop not gonna work

My sales lady was impressively knowlegable concerning all features on the new Silverado except the 110v outlet. When she showed me the outlet she says "this will be cool if your wife wants to curl her hair". Ummm yea, I don't think it's going to provide the 10-12 amps that will require. It is very disappointing that it will not run a laptop. I've yet to try it but that is inexcusable for a 2014 model to not be able to run a laptop!

Not a grinch just the truth if they put the outlet in there it should power something you would expect it to power... I have a $50 "Peak" brand inverter that powers my laptop Why can't the factory outlet in the new trucks do it?

I agree, 150 Watts is pretty lame. If you look in your fusebox you'll see the truck has all sorts of circuits with 20A, 30A fuses--indicating capacity of 400+ Watts for all sorts of things. Of all the circuits to limit to low wattage, you wouldn't think the power outlet would be the one they would choose to limit.

I just checked the chargers on my MacBook Pro bought earlier this year & a Lenovo that's about 3 years old. Both are 65 watts & I've be very surprised if they wouldn't charge when I get my new truck. I've used the Lenovo charger plugged into a cheap inverter I bought at Best Buy with no issues over the years in my Suburban.
