The Interior "Snap, Crackle, Pop" Thread

Recommended Posts

Thank you, mine had been in 3 times for this. I stuffed one piece of foam in there today and no more rattle. It would always rattle on left hand turns but not anymore.

Wrong again, the rattle is back.

When the weather started getting warmer, mine quit making the "rock hitting the windshield" noise.

I live in S Fla. And my rock hitting the glass sound is still always present. That's the only issue I'm having with my newer truck! The temp is 90+ every day.

Strange! Of the many issues with these trucks, none seem to have a clear cut common denominator.

Why a Tacoma? its an uncomfortable little truck.

Mainly because it's a Toyota (reliable) but not a tundra which I find too bulky. Honestly I went with the silverado because I did think I would eventually get sick of how much smaller the Tacoma is. I also like that their off-road package gets you Bilstein shocks and bf Goodrich tires. I dunno they just seem to care more about their product.

I have frequently heard the rock hitting the glass sound. Today however, I was resting my fingers on the dash while adjusting radio volume, and I felt it in my fingers/hand. Felt like it was the dark grey piece popping against the lighter grey. It was simultaneous, sound and feeling. Sounded just like it always did, like it was coming from the glass area too. Not sure if it's easy to recreate. It's always hot here, and I run with the A/C.

I too have the rock hitting the glass sound but I only seem to have it when the interior is very hot and I am running the A/C on high and the cabs begins to cool off. I really think that it is temp related. If this is the worse problem I have I guess I can live with it but I hope that someone figures it out as it does kinda startle you when it happens.

Just thought I'd chime in here. I had my windshield replaced due to a crack. Then started noticing this same "rock hitting the window" noise, at first I thought thats what had happened, but no damage... Could be coincidence but the weather jumped up to about 85 since I had the window replaced so I'm not sure if its the new window or the heat but from February-June I never heard this sound before.

Ok I can confirm that the place you have pointed to is where I heard and felt the pop. I was telling my wife about the possible place you pointed out today and reached to turn the radio up after talking to her. It popped just like the rock hitting the window noise and I felt it thru the knob. Just glad it's not the glass popping that could lead to a crack one day.

Anyone else have the bad rattle on the passanger side of their 2014 Silverado?? Sounds like it coming from the bottom of the glove box. At times it is real bad at other times it goes away. I have placed sock in the plastic cover below it so I know this is not the cause. any suggestions??

Snap, Crackle, Pop: It's definitely the radio and plastic cooling off.

Rattle: plastic pieces loosing up. Find the culprit piece and add some foam or cardboard behind it. Even though it shouldn't be necessary, it is!

It will be hard to keep a truck from completely rattling. It's not made to be as quiet as a independent rear suspension luxury car. But I agree it's really annoying on a brand new truck.

Morning All

I am new to this forum, Chevy / GMC guy early on turned to Ford for many years, but this year decided to return to my roots and got back into a 2014 GMC Sierra Crew 1500 SLT. The truck was built in 6-2014 so I was hoping most of the kinks were rung out for the model year, guess not.... It now has just over 3k and issues are starting to happen. All recalls had already been done on this vehicle from the factory.

The short of the long is: truck is very nice but some very annoying problems.

1) Very annoying dash ( I think from the dash) squeak from the drivers side at slower speeds and mild bumps in the road. THIS IS VERY VERY ANNOYING, even the radio can't cover up this one.

2) The infamous rock hitting the windshield noise

3) Drivers seat popping noise, I agree it is on the left side plastic cover area

4) Radio reception is horrible on satellite or terrestrial radio (worse than any vehicle I have ever owned, this alone makes me want to trade it in)

5) Transmission is not the greatest, sometimes has a mind of its own.

6) Hill decent braking takes too long to disengage

7) Mileage was going good at 18/19 combined and is now down to 17. All my other vehicles got better with use this one is getting worse???

8) Nav / Informant system very slow to react, tried all kinds of setting changes.

9) Wind noise by drivers door seals

10) Auto up feature on windows constantly lets the window back down as if it hit something

11) Auto climate control has a mind of it's own and will turn the passenger side all the way down to "LO" all by itself, I have watched it happen.

12) The drivers alert system is pretty much worthless, it goes off when it should not and does not when it should, this seems to have been a big waste of money....

There are more, just less annoying, but still should not be part of a $50k vehicle. My Fords with over 100k miles had no where this many issues even from the get go. I so wanted to LOVE this truck, if these issues are showing up at 3k miles what is going to happen at 20-30k????

The one good thing about this vehicle is my dealer Frank's GMC in Lyndhurst NJ. This was the easiest and quickest vehicle purchase I have ever made in my life. It took longer to decide on the color than it took to actually purchase the truck.

Thanks for listening

Tom
