2014+ Lowering / Drop Kits

Recommended Posts

I think you did right on the 3-5 IMO... 4-7 looks good but not for a daily around here.

I agree, it does look good but not practical, and while the 5 still isn't for the feint of heart give all the brackets I just cut off a truck with less than 500 miles on it, you basically have to run a C-notch on a drop more than 5 to keep it off the stops, at 7 you're riding on the stops. I'm happy with how it turned out and the ride is as good, if not better than stock. And I appreciate the help with all my questions, RT.

07 Softail and Darth_Vader, I have a 2014 RCSB V8 Silverado that I'd like to lower 3/5 or 4/6 which ever is the lowest I can go and still be some what practical and not notch the frame. I have a couple of quick questions. If you were to give advice on purchasing a kit that would allow a tailored stance (adjustability) which would you suggest? And 07 Softail, can I get the specs on your wheels and tires? My truck is silver and I think that set up would look killer on it. Thanks in advance for the info!

A couple pages back I listed why I used these parts, and this is my exact setup, but my list is:

McGaughy's front spindles and drop struts

DJM flip kit

Belltech street performance shocks in the rear

You'll need a one inch shackle to go 6", if you want to try let me know, I've got a brand new pair still in the unopened shipping box that I'll sell at a discount. I would give it a shot before chopping the factory bracket off if you think you want a 6" drop. Just get a simple flip kit (7" static drop) and run the 1" shackle and you'll have a 6", if it's too low you can order the new brackets to do the 4/5 drop, which will let you go 6" also with the 1" shackle.

You could probably pull off a 4/6 with the DJM flip kit and bump-stops, but I'm guessing it'll be very close, so you won't have much suspension travel. You won't be able to go 6" without a notch with the McGaughy's flip kit, you'll have less than an inch of suspension travel.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

The wheels are OEM CK160 22"x 9" cant remember backspacing. Tires are Falken 305-45-22 with 3-5 drop.

Thanks for the info, it's greatly appreciated!

This may seem a little off topic at first but I am looking to see what others have done regarding exhaust systems for a 3/5 or 4/6 drop on the 2015 Sierra? I initially installed a 3/5 drop with a Borla touring rear exit system. I don't recall having any exhaust interference then but now that I dropped it to the current 4/6 when I hit a dip in the road the rear axle pumpkin would strike the exhaust pipes that were above it. After two or three times of this happening I went under the truck and found the brake hose bracket was bent down. As a temporary measure I cut the pipes off as they exit the muffler and removed them. This sounded great at idle but when you were driving steady-speed and it went into 4-cylinder mode it sounded awful - resonating in the truck and buffeting like it does when the rear windows are down at highway speeds. So I bought a 33" long Magnaflow baffled muffler and two down turn pipes and had that installed. The exhaust exits down and out to the passengers side exiting right in front of the axle. Once again, it sounds great idling and under strong throttle but I can't stand it at cruise speeds. It resonates under the bed and is sooooo annoying on a long drive.

So, before I throw any more money at "trying" the next combination I am hoping some of you can tell me what system you have used that fits with my now 4/6 stance? I also have a Hellwig sway bar set in the truck so that tightens things a bit between the axle and spare tire. Ideally I would like exits behind the rear tires but at this point I just need something that exits back far enough to eliminate the buffeting. I have not been able to find a really good exhaust shop in my area (Mid-state South Carolina) who I trust to do a set of custom pipes. If anyone knows of one I would be willing to travel a few hours in any direction to get this done.

I'm doing the exact same setup on my black 2015 Sierra. Only thing is unless I find someone selling the Carbon wheels used, I'll be buying copies...which I hope are as good a fit. The 3/5 drop and those tires look perfect...exactly the look I'm going for, however I know those tires would rub on a 4/6 drop, so do they rub on your 3/5?

My truck is a 4WD.

DJM front and rear kits installed. 2" drop Control arms, 2" drop shackles and 1.25" block removed. DJM shocks on the rear. Stock Rancho shock up front. DJM says nothing about cutting bump stop so it remains stock.

I got a good deal on some OEM 22" takeoff's and mounted 285/45/22 Maxxis MAZ-4S all season performance tires.

I'm very happy with the stance as I like to have some rake. The ride is firmer due to the 45 series tire and the rear seems to be a tad bouncy likely due to the $50 ea DJM shocks. I'll look into some better quality rear shocks.

Apparently DJM is the only company to offer a rear sway bar but after my guys at www.lowriders.ca attempted install and call DJM's tech line it's clear the sway bar is not comparable with a 2015 as it hits the exhaust and hitch

I'll be installing some air bags come spring when I throw my track bike in the back for track days.

I like it. Those 22s do a lot in the way of making the drop look bigger. I have a 2/3 drop and need some 22's now lol.

Hellwig has a rear sway bar for 14's up

RT

Yeah,

Speaking to my guy today he mentioned that Hellwig would be an option. I think it will to be cat's meow and settle the rear down. I understand it's the exhaust that impede's the install of the DJM swaybar. Some sorta exhaust resonator.

Love it! I don't off road my truck and would like to lower it but wasn't sure I could lower a 4x4 enough but yours looks great. Any issues? Weird vibrations? How's the handling? Alignment come out ok? Could you go lower with a 4x4?

No vibrations. I think most vibrations occur when the axle is flipped.

Lowriders.ca owner Todd is pretty experienced and been doing this for years so I follow his lead. He lowered my brothers 4X4 Tundra with a 3/5 drop in 2011 and it's been perfect. Held wheel alignments producing extra long tire life.
