2014+ Lowering / Drop Kits

Recommended Posts

So I got my Mcgaughys spindles in and plan to install them this week. Anyone know if I need any special socket or bit to remove the caliper or anything else? Do the front rotors come off easy or do they need a bolt to torque them off the hub?

Nothing special just Metric sockets to disassemble the uppers and lower ball joints and brake calipers and the rotors have 3 bolts to remove them. You will also need some tin snips to cut the dust shield behind the front rotor and some loctite for the top stud that will need to be installed on the spindle. Grab you some large zip ties or clothes hangers to hang the calipers from the upper control arms...you DO NOT want them to hang from the hose itself. Its all in the instructions

Well finished her up earlier, the 2/3 drop is finished. I need to go in for an alignment tomorrow. Shes drives all jacked up with the alignment being so out of whack. I took a bunch of pics and will be doing a DIY for the spindles later tonight.

Finished the DIY http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/170314-2014-silverado-mcgaughys-lowering-spindle-install/

Finally ordered my shackles! My plan is to use the 1" hole and remove the block to get a total of 2.25", anybody done this before? I don't really want to have to get new blocks and risk getting any vibration or humming.

BTW LTZTom, your truck is being used as the "sample picture" for the Mcgaughys dro shackles, even though yours is dropped with more than the shackles

Finally lowered my rear! So happy with the way it sits now!! Front is at about 36 1/2 and back is at about 37. Perfect for me. I removed the blocks and used the 1' hole on the shackles. So far there is no compromise in ride comfort and no wheel hope either, ask me how I checked...

I took the blocks out of my 2010, 2013 and now out of my 2014. Take the blocks out and use the same ubolts and put

6 washers on each ubolt stud, there is not any change in the ride. The blocks are a lttle over one inch but it looks like

you lowered it two inchs. The bottom line is the trucks looks a whole better. I am 71 years old and it is easy to do for an old

man, my 5 year old granson can do it.

Any chance you could explain, with some detail, how to get the blocks out? I want to do this, but want to be certain I don't screw anything up (or kill myself).

Would remove the bottom shock mount first, after that have read two methods:

1. Lift the whole truck, put on stands near front shackle, loosen U-bolt, pull block and jack pumpkin to re-seat the spring on the axle. Snug it up.

2. Loosen the U-bolt with truck on ground, lift side of truck until block will come out. Snug it back up using U-bolt.

In both scenarios, put truck back on ground to final torque the U-bolts.

Sorry if this is too basic, but dang if I can find a good write-up. Around my shop, Murphy was an optimist...

Thanks

I couldn't understand your methods. it might be because I have a drink or two in me right now but this is the way I did it.

Jacked truck up and placed jack stands on frame of truck so the differential hangs freely.

Loosen (remove) U-bolts.

Use jack to lift leaf springs up and remove block while the springs separate from differential.

Make sure differential and leaf springs line up and tighten U-bolts again.

Do one side at a time, because if you do both at the same time then the rear will move and you'll need another jack to straighten it all out again. Thankfully I have two big jacks, otherwise I don't know what I would've done...

  • 2 weeks later...

Evil twin,

I have a Sierra single cab and had around a 4" difference front and rear before I did my shackles. Once installed in the 2" hole it looked a little better but still not level enough for me. Plus I wanted it a little lower over all.

Here are a few before pics.

And here it is after Belltech struts set at 2" drop along with a Belltech flip kit with lift hangers to get it back to 5" drop in the rear with Belltech shocks.

Ok all, need some help!!! Did the 4/6 drop on my CCSB, and have had a crazy vibration since at highway speeds, 68-78 ish MPH. About to just lift it back up until it is gone! Had the shop put in 2.5 degree shims before the last road trip, and not a bit better. HELP!!

you need to have the driveline angles measured and corrected. Throwing shims at it without knowing the size you actually need won't help. If the shop you took it to doesn't know how to fix this take it somewhere else. Last resort go to 4wheelpart and have the check it out. Since they are a commercial business they won't be cheap but they know what to do and do work on lowered trucks.
