2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

This is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyways! When looking for a tip do you just get whatever you think looks best? Are most of the tips the same size where it connects to the pipe? Also, does whoever installs the pipe cut it to where you want or bend it if you want it to be bent? For instance, if you want it coming out behind the tire, does the shop who installs it bend the pipe to make it do that?

Magnaflow 18" on 2014 sounds a lot different than the 2012 . The short stroke 4.8 Vortec sounded close to the older high revving 327/350 Chevys, the 2014 5.3 DFI seems under no stress at all with a mellow tone. Thinking of replacing 3.5"x18L Slash cut tips with 3" inch tips and adjust the pipes up a little. Gibson 15 deg. cut are the only 18" bolt on tips I could find.

I've owned quite a few V8 cars and trucks over the years and all had some sort of exhaust system, mainly flowmaster SI/DO or true duals with flowmasters. Out of all the V8 vehicles I have owned my 2002 with the 4.8 was the best sounding engine I have ever owned with a flowmaster, better than the 5.3 (before DI and AFM).

The tip diameter where it connects to the pipe is based on the diameter of the pipe you are running (usually 2.5 or 3 inch). A muffler shop can bend the pipe to fit around whatever they need to.

Hey guys, I'm sure it's been mentioned but I'd really rather not read through the thread, but which cat is the 2nd cat? It's the one right before the flex pipe right? That's what I thought but my buddy thought that the cat on either header were the 1st and 2nd cats. But you couldn't really double dip like that huh? 1 cat on each header would be the first cat for both and then the first cat in the combined pipe (the one right before the flex pipe) would be the 2nd cat? Or am I way off?

Sorry if this has been answered already!

This is the one I'm talking about

I gutted it tonight and it made the truck sound WAY throatier and a heck of a lot meaner. But not completely sure if I'm happy with it. Might have to get another cat, less restrictive than stock but more than this

From other forums read this is the third cat and not monitored, some owners replaced it with a section of exhaust pipe.

Want to make sure myself,

2.5" ID tip inlet for 2.5" OD exhaust pipe is that correct?

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry if anyone has talked about this before but I don't remember seeing anything aside from Spurshot talking about his rounded tip so his pups don't catch an eye on it...

I drive on the highway for long distances often and I take my dog almost everywhere I go, she is part of the family. Most of the time she can ride in the cab, but when I have my wife and daughter along with all of their bags and accessories or hunting buddies and gear she rides in the back in a secured kennel. I'm afraid the bed will turn into a giant subwoofer which will have a similar sound maybe even more amplified as the drone we would get in the cab.

I really want to do a muffler swap just for the good ol' V8 rumble, but don't want to mess with drone and really don't want to tune (yet).

That being said, what do any of you fellow dog owners/hunters think about it?

Am I totally over analyzing this or do I have a valid thought?

I think leaving everything in place and just swapping the muffler for something in the 18 inch range will give me what I'm looking for with minimal to no drone... Obviously I'm not exhaust expert just thinking.

Sorry for the long post.

This is a concern of mine too, except that I will have my dog in the kennel in a camper shell, so it could be even worse. It will have a carpeted headliner and rubber bed mat and spray in liner.

Here it is....finally

I'm a flowmaster guy, but I like the sound of this 14" magnaflow. Did you say you kept the flapper and removed the resonator? Sorry, I've read a hundred posts since I quoted this one :D

Not sure how it sounds in the bed during highway speeds, but very little drone if any in the cab. Only time there is really drone is when your accelerating from a stop. Cruising is very quiet.

I just swapped the muffler and added a double tip. Not that much sound difference at all just sounds like a truck should now. I'm thinking about taking the resonator off to see what that does.

I'm new to GMC, I just purchased a 2014 CC, SLE with the American Luxury Package. The package includes, among other stuff, a Flo Pro exhaust that is all stainless. Does anyone know who manufactures this exhaust?

FloPro makes several different styles of muffler, they actually make copies of both Flowmaster & Magnaflow. I wouldn't be afraid of their product, just a cheaper priced version of each and to be honest it may be made just as well without paying for the name.
