2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

After reading through this thread I see some of you are preferring the flapper valve to be in your exhaust. Is this for masking that weird sound for the motors V4 mode or something different?

I didn't care for the V4 mode sound with my Flowmaster Super 50 on my 13 Silverado ext cab...

I did have a Range device after the Flowmaster but did suffer some loss in mileage.

Correct. The flapper is to mask the sound of the V4 "drone" or "helicopter noise" I personally don't mind if. I just turn the radio on and the sound goes away. Might just be because I have the 18" magnaflow so it's not that noticeable. I know a smaller muffler would make It louder

OK, Borla in place, flapper valve gone but front cats all remain. I was told I would have warranty issues if I remove it. Here are a couple of shots of install.

You mean warranty issues with GM on the exhaust if you remove the cats?

It goes a deeper than that if you remove the cats. Warranty would be the least of your problems if you get caught.

Step 1. Replace stock muffler with 22" Magnaflow.

Step 2. Go back to muffler shop, remove Resonator and Flapper.

Step 3. Wait 6 months for the 22" Magnaflow to get a little louder.

Step 4. Go back to muffler shop, tell manager it's not loud enough.

Step 5. Manager says no problem, you'll be fixed up in an hour.

Step 6. New 18" Magnaflow installed. (CORRECTION - 14" Magnaflow)

Step 7. PERFECT!

Exactly what I should have done from the beginning. Manager didn't charge me for the upgrade. Diamond Muffler Lee's Summit, MO. Highly recommended.

Just a very short clip. Exactly the rumble I was looking for!

No tune. And I haven't changed the V8-V4 Cyl. Deactivation.

The 14" Magnaflow is perfect for the sound I wanted.

I look forward to V4 mode because I like that sound.

After running muffler delete and a tune for 8 months I pulled the tune to get ready for oil change and service. I got the V4 shake and the black hawks following me again. So I did something I never did before I put the stock quiet muffler on. Im going to leave that way for a while to see if it really improves the gas mileage. Im getting old.

Haha... yeah I'm gettin' old too. But if that's true, why does my wife keep telling me to grow up?

Could have something to do with that nice vette, it took me 40 years but when it comes to cars I finally won the wife over. She has a sport car toy, I have an old truck toy.

CORRECTION to my post #757.

The new Magnaflow is the 14" case, not the 18".

No wonder it sounds so good! Happy Camper!

Do you have any videos taken while driving in v4 and v8?

No, just had it put on today. I'll try to get one posted in the next day or two.
