2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

Does anyone think it would be possible to have 2 exhaust options? By this I mean cut the exhaust system just before the muffler and put in an electric cut out, from the cut out, run one way to the muffler #1 (this one would be a more tame exhaust sound) and then the other exit for the cutout would go to a much less tamed, much louder muffler, muffler #2. For these purposes lets say that muffler #1 would be an 18" or 22" magnaflow, and muffler #2 would be a 14" magnaflow or a super 40 series American thunder from Flowmaster. After the mufflers, the pipes from each would them run to the same exhaust tip(s).

It's something I have been wondering about. I mean, we all have those times where you don't want to wake up everyone in the neighborhood or in your house becuase you are leaving early morning so you would want your truck to be a bit more on the quiet side, while at other times you are wanting your truck to just shut down anyone else who tries to roll up next to you and rev their exhaust at you.

Anyone think this would be something worth trying? After I get everything else done that I want to do to my truck, I may try this. Unless someone already has and had a bad experience.

Corvettes have what is called "Dual Mode" Exhaust. There is a butterfly valve in the 2 outside tips (4 total), that can be controlled by a remote (Called "Mild to Wild" Controller). The valves are controlled by a vacuum line, either open or closed. Closed = quiet rumble... Open = Ground pounder. Pretty cool system.

Not impossible to rig up on a truck, but it would take a lot of custom work!

So I can anyone with the Corsa side outlet exhaust comment on the sound and drone (if any) in V-4 mode on the highway and around town? I'm very close to purchasing one but I can't find many reviews of the exhaust system. Thanks in advance!

Go to a muffler shop have a y pipe put in front of the muffler run a dual pipe with two exits. Weld header flanges on the tips with wing nuts, wild and mild. You could even run the wild side in front of the rear tire. You don't really have to flange the quiet side, you open the loud side it will just flow that way. Ive done it, its a blast.

Is there a way to control that from inside of the cab?

Yes, electric cut off. It doesn't take long to undo three wing nuts. Caution where gloves when hot.

Thanks man. After I do a few other things to my truck I'll probably do this mod. I've been thinking about it for quite some time but knowing that some others have done it before makes me want to try it more haha. But as I said, this one will be after a few things. Tint, lift, tires, light bar. After those mods, it looks like I may have a real "true dual" exhaust. But not how most people think of true duals haha.

Drone is terrible with my 14" magnaflow. Thinking about buying that AFM delete device from Range Technology. Plug n play and can remove when you want the AFM for long trips and what not. Its 200 bucks though.

Do not waste your money. All you have to do is shift your trans into Manual mode(I use M5 mostly) .and the truck will not switch to V4. Works great. The new trannys are not really "MANUAL" shift any longer. It will run thru first to fifth just like normal. and when you get on the highway ,flip the little switch on the shift lever to 6th and everyones happy. Just remember to flip the switch every time to M5 or you'll take off in first gear. After a few weeks it will become second nature and you won't even realize your doing it. It will seem like a different truck. Hope this helps. OH I forgot to tell you that when you do flip the switch to 6th the truck will go into V4. And be shure to use the switch and not the shift lever . Don't want to go shifting into reverse at 70 mph. :driving:

Its shifts right at red line too, sometimes on the 1-2 shift it bounces the red limiter, pretty cool. I don't go into m6 till after 60, no change in gas millage.

I just want something that is gonna sound good, with a nice growl, not be too loud on idle, and absolutely will NOT drone in V4 mode....there are so many choices. Anyone have suggestions?

I've heard good things on Corsa and Borla cat backs. And they are guaranteed no-drone.

Corsa if you have the dough.. aFe if you like your wallet fatter. I had the corsa on my 05 and loved it. Also, now am running the aFe on my 14 and love it. Helicopter sound is there when switching from V4 to V8 but in town I run it in m5 like everyone suggests. On the highway there is no drone but get on the gas and you can tell its there.
