2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

Just installed a Gibson Dual Sport stainless cat-back system. Pretty straight forward install except for the exhaust clamp just behind the third converter. It was a bear to loosen and l ended up heading to Napa to get a replacement. There was no way it was going to go back on without snapping. Went for a disastrous test drive and noticed a lot of rattling at stop signs and very loud note. Took a peek once I was back in the driveway and found I had not tightened the single inlet clamp going into the muffler enough. I ended up trimming the dual outlets about six inches so the 4" tips wouldn't stick out too far. I have long trip into camp this weekend (about 2.5 hours highway/3 hours on logging roads). This should be a good break-in and test for V4 drone. Initial impression is quite an aggressive sound - a lot deeper/louder tone in the cabin and out.

I tried removing without cutting but couldn't do it. I cut a couple inches behind the muffler so there would be room the slice it back together if need be. I didn't have access to a lift so that might make a difference in getting the rear resonator over the axle.

My Double cab came out in one piece. I just put all 4 wheels up on a jackstand and removed the spare.

I believe yours will do the same as the part that is over the rear axel is the same and that is the part that requires a little maneuvering to get out.

Finally had the tips moved to rear quarter flush and with a slight stagger.qu2aryje.jpg

So the 14" magnaflow is plenty loud with the 3rd converter left intact, so gonna keep it like that. However, not fully sold on the location of the tips. Opinions? Leave it where it is or move it to exit behind rear tire in stock locstion?

had the same setup as you on a 2004. the oval tips kinda dont go with the square look of the truck. That is honestly a great setup and I will be doing something simalar on my 2014. However I think a couple of tips that are a little more square and sit flush and staggered would look sweet on your ride. Maybe even painted black would look even better on your truck. I want that same setup...

Did you remove the "flapper" valve and resonator? (BTW, I'm the one and only forum member who actually likes drone! )

No your not.... I like it too.

I just ordered a MBRP 3.5" single exit cat-back that should be on by next week sometime. Can't wait to actually hear my 6.2

Finally, another "Drone-Brother"! Haha... yeah, I learned to love drone when I put that Billy Boat cat-back on the Vette... Loud and drone-heavy!
