2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

I installed the Borla (non-GM) Touring yesterday.  Actually a bit louder than I thought it would be, but sounds great!  When I went out this morning I noticed that there seems to be a drip of water from around one of the clamps?  Anyone know if this is indicative of an exhaust leak or normal?  When I first started it yesterday, I did not hear anything that sounds like an exhaust leak...

Has anyone gone ahead and had the joints on their Borla Catback system welded vs. sticking with the clamps?  I have water leaking from the clamps and while I'm almost certain there's no exhaust leak, having the joints welded would ensure that there's no exhaust leak and would eliminate the water leaking from the joints.  Anyone gone this route...any cons?

I put my Borla Atak cat back on myself and was wondering if I should have it welded, my mechanic said that as long as everything is tightened properly that there should be no problems. I know that there is a small hole in the can for draining, so if you’re experiencing a leak from there I wouldn’t think it’d be a problem, I’ve had no leaks from the joints that I’m aware of after 15k miles with it on, so you may just need to snug things up a bit. I’m no expert, just figured I’d give my two cents worth.

Thanks for chiming in.  Ya, it drips from the hole in the can in addition to most of the joints.  I can actually feel the air blowing out when I put my hand over the hole in the can with the engine running, but can't feel or see anything (other than the drips) coming from the joints.  I'm thinking if there was a true exhaust leak, it would be noticeable...especially with me lying underneath the truck and checking the joints with it running!  Mostly a piece of mind thing for me, since I installed it myself and just want to make sure there are no issues.

It could also just be humidity in the air, just a speculation, feel free to roast me if I’m wrong

I'm not worried about the liquid, as it's just a bi-product of cold air/pipe - hot exhaust.  My concern is around there being an exhaust leak at the clamps and the liquid dripping from them a sign that there indeed is an exhaust leak.  Water leaking out of the tailpipe is a normal occurrence, but not sure if it should be leaking from the clamps/joints.

Ah gotcha, not super knowledgeable on the subject but I probably wouldn’t worry about it if it’s in the exit pipes past the muffler, if it’s in the pipes before the muffler there might be cause for worry because of the loss of back pressure, but assuming you still have the factory cats I wouldn’t think there’d be a problem

Switched up my exhaust from a side exit behind the rear tire to in front of the rear tire. Has a little deeper tone without the extra pipe. Still very little drone and more sound in the cab which I was hoping for. Let me know what you think.

Looks great! You should level it out, I’m looking at a BDS leveling kit and if you’re keeping the stock suspension it’ll run you under $150 excluding labor if you’re having someone put it on

Idle clip of my 5.3 with a Black Widow 250 3" in/out muffler and a Corsa 3" in dual 4" out tip.

Been watching your videos on YouTube! Looking to get a venom 250, can't decide if i want to leave the resonator or not. Cruising speeds at 75 can you still hold a conversation?

I'm not familiar with the Venom but I have the Carven R which is practically a straight through muffler and I can hold a conversation just fine.

Yes at cruising speeds it isn't loud at all in the cab.

Just listened to your new vid plus the older ones where you had it positioned behind the wheel, as well as the before and after the Corsa tip.

So, you got rid of the resonator and third cat and only have the muffler.  You say no drone, or minimal drone while cruising on the highway around 70-80mph eh?  This exhaust sounds really good, sounds sick at idle, especially when you put it in D lol these trucks have a good lope to em!!

What kind of sound difference did you notice between the single exit and twin exit tip?

I'm getting tired of driving around stock and was really hoping to do a Corsa, but I'm now a new home owner and reality is I can easily justify $300 on an exhaust, not $1100 at this time.  I don't want to drive stock for another 2 years or so. I think what I'd do is buy this muffler, take it to a shop and have them remove the factory system and then just fab up a quick cat back out the one side.

Edit: just listened to your highway pull vid.... man I miss that sound!!!!
