2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

I have an aero turbine 3030 with flapper and resonator removed ran through the stock piping with an aero exhaust tip at the end. Cold starts are loud but mellows out as the truck warms up. It's an expensive muffler but the quality and sound you get is amazing. It has a deep aggressive tone without being obnoxious and the in cab noise is perfect to me. I highly recommend the turbine mufflers!

Dtom, is it loud like, " holy f don't wake the neighbors!!!" ? From the clips I've heard it sounds amazing but just nervous on after the install thinking the cops are gonna wanna talk to me all the time or be "that guy". Not to worried about drone really but do you get any? And is it noticeable in cabin and is it quiet enough that you can talk to someone in the truck or listen to the radio? Any sound clips?

Hopefully he kept that 22" MagnaFlow around for when he does.

Still the best combo i have heard.... But im bias

Catless headers 3"ed to a 22" magnaflow is just beautiful.

So if I have this correct the flapper is the only thing between having drone and not? Its seems as some have no drone without the flapper depending on the system or the noticeability of the drone. I want to get an 18" magna flow muffler keeping the resonator and flapper... I should NOT have drone correct?

Drone is from certain mufflers/systems in a normal V8 engine

Drone/Heli sound is from not having the flapper valve and the AFM V4 activating and the type of muffler used (besides stock)

So either way you're susceptible to drone, IMO it's a trial and error thing when not using complete systems and just replacing certain parts. There is a science to exhaust that most folks don't believe.

It is possible with a straight through muffler replacement only you could introduce drone even with leaving the flapper in, depending on the muffler itself.

I have a 14" magnaflow as I posted a couple posts back and the V4 chopper sound that everyone is talking about isn't even loud enough to be heard if you use your radio AT ALL. But if it still bothers you, the flapper is what fixes it.

As far as "drone" is concerned... (personally) I would think that term more applies to the sound that most after market exhausts produce when driving at highway speeds, that steady hum.

If you have any kind of an after market exhaust, that sound will be present, just based on the amount of air moving through the system ... Correct me if I'm wrong but... there's No real way to get around that unless you stay stock, or get a SUPER quiet muffler.

Correct! If you want to cut the V4 chopper sound, leave the flapper in. Agree 100%.

Yes. Drone and V4 Chopper are completely different. Drone is exactly this..... "That stead hum". Can be LOUD, depending on the muffler/exhaust system chosen. Agree 100%.

Agree (again). Well stated.

It is loud that people will notice. It is not really possible to drive it quietly unless you are off the throttle, accelerate and people will notice you and likely turn their head. The noise is an aggressive deep tone, but honestly really good in my opinion. Full throttle pulls are amazingly aggressive but with a solid tone, not just loud. This is my favorite part. There is just something to it that is spot on. V4 drone is there bit minimal. In the cabin windows up with music at low-mid listening volume it is noticeable but not distracting during city driving. Conversations are had without issues.

My wife who rolls her eyes at car things I do and buy actually really likes the tone of it. She said it's very aggressive sounding, not too little and not too much.

I've got loud borlas on my corvette which is matted to a 350 HO deluxe crate engine. Those are very loud but lack the distinct tone that these stypes have. Sure my corvette has the awesome lumpy muscle car idle, but there is something to the actual notes of the stype that is great. More refined for sure, but still plenty of in your face. My corvette for comparison is very difficult to have a conversation in the car with that exhaust. You have to talk very loud almost yelling.

Honestly, I never heard the corsa or borla stype in person before buying so I suppose it is possible the corsa is even better. YouTube videos certainly don't do the proper justice. Best course if possible is to hear them in person.

Really though, my gut says you can't go wrong with either one.

So... Borla S? Direct

Muffler replacement? Link with specifics would be awesome [emoji106]

I put on borla atak catback and removed the guts on the third resonator and it sings borla instead of that whoosh noise when you rev it up.

I even started the truck with the exhaust removed from the y pipe before and after gutting the third resonator and it wasn't really that obnoxious huh.

But it's just right now ,that third resonator makes the exhaust way worse on the Erving and the idle noise you get.
