Flowmaster with no resonator will be louder than your current setup.

However, no muffler and no resonator will be louder than the above.

I think he means it will be quieter with the 40 without the resonator than no muffler at all with the resonator. Not sure if he's right or not. I have a Super 44 single in/dual out so no resonator and I love the sound and love how loud it is. I've read that the resonator quiets the sound down a pretty good amount even with an aftermarket muffler. From what I've seen the Super 40 and Super 44 are the same loudness, the 44 just has a more aggressive sound. Now if you keep the muffler off and also cut the resonator out then that would be louder than your current setup and a Flowmaster setup since you won't have any kind of muffler. If I was in your shoes I would have the resonator cut out and see how it sounds without either piece and if you don't like it then add a Flowmaster.

Have you heard a truck without the muffler and resonator? I was thinking about it, but I didn't know what the tone would be like. I'm looking for something nice, deep and aggressive. But not overly loud on the highway.

Yeah, with just the resonator it is pretty quiet right now, so I'm trying to find something deeper and more aggressive.

I had Flowmaster super 40, no resonator. It was plenty loud, but kinda annoying sometime when accelerating. Couple small drone zones. I had the borla 40359 with no resonator, and I think that sounded cleaner. Another good option is MagnaFlow 11229 I think.

I assume you have 4cyl tuned out.

I had 2 Super 40s on my '98 and it had a decent sound, but wasn't aggressive enough for me and having 2 instead of one it wasn't as loud as I had hoped. At the time I just assumed 2 would be louder and better than 1. Plus the stock system was true dual with 1 dual in/dual out muffler and I didn't want to redo the whole thing from front to back and again I thought 2 was better than 1. To me the Super 44 is more aggressive, maybe more of a growl to it than the 40. I know I can't make a positive comparison since the '98 had 2 40s and the '14 I have now has a single 44 single in/dual out.

Yes, I do have v4 tuned out. When you had your borla on did it just slip over the stock tubing and then was welded in place? You're not selling it anymore? And I'll look at the magnaflow, have you ever run it?

I decided to keep the Borla and put it on with the stock resonator in place. See my videos above a couple posts. I have catless headers, so that is why I am keeping the resonator. Visit my YouTube page and you'll see a few of my setups.

The borla is 3", so you need to weld it in place as slipping and clamping won't work with oem exhaust being too small.

I am selling 3" exhaust with no muffler if you want to experiment like I did.

What do you prefer? The flowmaster or magnaflow?

My opinion:

Borla

MagnaFlow

Flowmaster

They are all around the same price.

I love Corsa, but that's $$$

Haha yeah, I like the corsa too, but I'm trying to limit my spending right now. Maybe I'll try magnaflow or borla. Do you think the borla you have would be pretty loud without the resonator?

Magnaflow I think sounds good and can sound very similar to Flowmaster, I'm just brand loyal with most everything and don't have a bad thing to say about Flowmaster. I know Borla is also good, especially when it comes to bolt on systems. I'd rather just have a system built to what I want instead of paying a lot for a bolt on system. Especially when I've been reading about some of the good bolt on systems constantly leaking at a connection. I'm also picky so I wanted the exhaust done exactly how I wanted instead of settling for a bolt on setup or hoping I find a system exactly how I want which I couldn't find anyways.

Nope, it sounds awesome. This is no resonater in cab windows up. Rainey, so slippage.

It's so difficult to decide haha. I'm thinking either borla or magnaflow now. What about the borla makes you say it sounds better?

You've had good luck with flowmaster? I've heard bad things and good things so it's hard to tell what to believe.
