2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

I thought I would share my experience to help anyone trying to decide what to do. I read through many pages in here. I didn't really need new exhuast but after hearing a co workers power wagon with new exhuast, I decide I would. At first the shop put in a Magnaflow 14 inch muffler and cut out the factory muffler and third cat. He also welded the flapper open so I could drive it and see what I wanted to do. I actually couldn't hear much of a difference. A slight drone in 4 cylinder mode but it wasn't really that bad. I wanted a better sound so I decided to have them cut out the resonator ( but still leave the flapper in welded open just in case I needed it). It got much louder after that. Now when you start it, you know it is running. It is actually hard to hear any difference when it switches from v8 to v4 but there is a constant louder noise when driving down the highway. It is louder in the top gear then it is when it shifts to 5th actually. It is very noticable for sure. I think I wanted an exhuast sound somewhere in between these to choices so maybe an 18 inch muffler would have been better. It cost me $500 for this here in Alberta and I have a 2014 ccsb with the 5.3.

It does sound very nice when driving in town and putting your foot into it. Just a little loud in the cab when cruising at highway speeds. V8 or v4 sound the same now I find, both loud ha ha. I will live with it now seeing as I paid for it. Just wanted to let everyone know that the resonator in the back makes a huge difference in the volume. My milage is going to get worse I am thinking due to stepping on it a little harder all the time to hear the rumble :)

Anyone have experience with flowmaster super 10, 40, or 44? Looking to cut out the muffler, flapper, and resonator and replace it with one of these. Just not sure which I want.

I have the Super 44 single in/dual out and it sounds awesome. I had everything from the muffler on back removed and had the muffler and tailpipes added with a tip at 45° behind each tire. The 40 is just as loud, but doesn't have as much aggressiveness to it. The 10 is I believe the loudest and most aggressive, but I'm not 100% sure if the 10 is actually street legal. You do get the V4 drone where it sounds like a commercial truck's exhaust brake, but it doesn't bother me because I actually love that sound. If I ever do a tune I'll probably tune the AFM off so it's always in V8 mode.

I actually already have my truck tuned so no v4 for me! Lol. But do you think it's a nice balance of loudness? I like how both the 10 and 44 sound in the YouTube videos I have seen. Didn't know if the 10 would be too loud for a daily driver though. Do you have any pictures of your setup? Also, does the dual make any difference in the sound? I think I like just a single side exit.

No pics. I do have a video of how mine sounds though, but it's not cold start. I just crank it up and then WOT it for a little bit. It's just a single in/dual out muffler with the tailpipes and one tip on each side at 45° behind each tire. As for duals, I don't think it's much of a difference since it's still 1 muffler. I know if you do true duals with 2 single in/single out mufflers then it won't be as loud. I like duals because I'm OCD as hell so I gotta have a tip on each side or at least duals coming out the back like I did on my '98. Also I figured duals with 1 behind each tire would make more people hear it better lol. The Super 44 is probably on a thin line for most people when it comes to loudness on a daily. Too me it's not that bad because the cabs are quieter for when the windows are up and down I just turn the radio up just loud enough where I can hear both lol. Cold start up is very loud and makes me smile everytime. I also think of that meme on FaceBook that shows a picture of a jet and says "what my neighbors think when I start it up in the morning".

Since I'm not 100% sure if the Super 10 is even street legal I probably wouldn't get it just because of that. It's more of a muffler for a high performance vehicle I believe. It still may be street legal, I'm just not sure if it is. As for being too loud, it wouldn't be for me because I like very loud while still being a crisp sound. Just depends on what you like. I Can't stand glasspacks where people clear out the fiberglass in them so it because a straight pipe, just sounds bad with way too much crackling.

Pics & Video. Unfortunately GoPro didn't catch the sound that great but figured I would post anyway. Definitely a more mild tone than the Flowmaster 10 duals I had on my 2003 Z71 but still an aggressive tone and its definitely louder in person.

-Dynomax exhaust kit 38531
-Magnaflow 11229 (14x9)
-Summit Racing SUM-691201 double wall dual tip (identical to Corsa tip but a lot cheaper)

New Mid Pipe

Magnaflow 11229 muffler

New tailpipe

Nice work, sounds great! Was planning the same thing but with a borla muffler. Im going to try this GM Borla and if itsnt agressive enough I may still switch it up.

Painted my Borla satin black and installed it along with the Hellwig Sway bar. Those two fit very, very tightly under there

Love the black on the exhaust!

How you like the Hellwig, I plan to install mine this week some time.

Honestly I'm much more impressed with the difference the sway bar made than the exhaust. I had to modify some parts of the sway bar to make it fit with the exhaust. The two of them fought to occupy the same space between the shock and spare tire on the drivers side.

Glad to hear it.

Guessing I won't have any of those issues as I don't have dual exhaust.

Should be smooth sailing for you then. For what its worth, I put mine on the middle hole and I think I'll leave it there. I think the stiffest hole would unbalance it with the front.

Excellent, thanks for that heads up.
