2014+ Exhaust Systems & Mufflers

Recommended Posts

1. As a rule, straight thru designs will be louder than chambered mufflers.

2. You don't want back pressure.

3. Flowmaster 50 series mufflers don't drone. The "heavy duty" version, aka the SUV version, is a bit quieter.

I am very happy with it, especially for the price point. It's definitely loud, but not bad in the cab, I think it has very little drone, but with the windows up and the radio on its not really noticeable.

Install wasn't bad at all, I did it alone. I mentioned it did come with the junky U-bolt clamps, so I just replaced those with band clamps and it works awesome no leaks. Other then coming with the cheap clamps I thought the quality of the exhaust was great especially considering it only cost like $520.

This is just my thought, but I'm fairly sure also that it comes from the same place as the corsa exhaust

Volants makes corsas cold air intakes so i wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks man... Finally think i found what ibwas looking for.

I noticed a while back that Corsa wasn't offering a dB Performance exhaust for the 2014+ but this appears to be that exhaust marketed as Volant. Makes sense as others have mentioned since Corsa rebrands Volant intakes. If I hadn't started piecing my new exhaust together already I definitely would have went with one of these.

Oh good, I'm glad I could help! And yeah, the reasons I thought it was from corsa, the install instructions from both corsa and volant have the same adress at the bottom, they look similar, and the part numbers, volant for my truck is 54873 and corsa is 14873. I also felt the muffler itself looked similar to the corsa

To my knowledge the db performance line uses 409 stainless pipes rather than 304 and offers a 10 year warranty instead of lifetime. I'm pretty sure they share the same muffler with Corsa but I could be wrong on that. Looks like this Volant system is 304 stainless pipes though which is a great deal for around $500.

Could that be the only difference??

I know 409 is cheaper but on autoanything.com it says the entire system is constructed of 304 muffler and all.

So after 106 pages :banghead: I'm pretty sure I found the exhaust setup I want to run.

Magnaflow 14"

remove resonator and flapper.

I want to dump the exhaust either before or after the axle. I've notice that people said if I dumped it before, it would be considerably louder, In that case, should I get an 18" magnaflow and then dump before the axle or a 14" and dump it after the axle? I really like kerrslight setup.

Thanks

Thanks man. I love it and I'm sure you will too.

To each their own, but I had turn downs off the muffler on my last two trucks because it looked great with no tail pipe, but after running it out to the corner like the factory pipe runs, I'm much happier with that setup. You can still hear it in the cab, but it is my no means obnoxious or too loud. If you turn it down off the muffler, it will be considerably louder in the cab.

The other thing you can do if you you really don't want to see the pipes is have the pipes ran over the rear axle, but tucked up under the bumper.

As far as what muffler to go with, call around and see if you can find an exhaust shop that carries the mufflers in house. The shop I went to slipped both the 18 and 14 on and let me listen to them and pick which one I wanted before they installed.

Yeah that's a good idea, I really like the sound note of yours and I don't want it to be any louder really, especially in the cab from dumping the exhaust. I seen a video a few pages back (I think it was Kinney's performance or something) where it was tucked underneath the bumper and it looked really clean. As far as that, I noticed they were dual out, would I have to go dual out to make that work?

BTW, +1 for all your input on this thread.

If you go the turndown method, whether its before or after the cab, I would do Single in/Dual out. From my experience if your going to dump it, it kinda looks better with duals. Not that you will ever really see it unless your looking for it, but if you bend over right and looking in from the back right wheel well, you can see it. Also, if you are to run over the axle, you can have a pipe on each side of the truck so the sound is balanced.

Hey no worries man. I've done my good share of research over the years so I don't mind helping out. There's some things I know more about than other things. I know exhaust pretty well so just trying to spread the knowledge and help out where I can. That's why I made that video. When I was looking, I couldnt find a video that showed me everything I wanted to see so I solved that problem for anyone else who's looking.

The tip is a single outlet also instead of Corsa's dual outlet. The Corsa also has a section of flex pipe in the intermediate pipe but other than that I cannot explain the $600 price difference. I got the 304 info from autoanything.com also as it doesn't specify which type of stainless on Volant's website.
