What do you think of Ram 1500's?

I'm a parts guy at a dealership bodyshop.

The Ram 1500's have come a long way. Asthetically they look great, but under the skin they are the same old trucks. Cheeply built, not designed very safely compared to a Ford or GM 1500.

I've heard the rear coil springs are crap for towing ANYTHING, but give the best ride (of the 3) if all you are doing is taking the family out for dinner & a movie, etc.

Just my 2cents.

My dad traded a 1999 Dodge 2500 Cummins for a 2013 1500 Ram Big Horn. It rides nice and its got amazing acceleration...but it should when compared to a 2500. But I didn't think it was anything special beyond that. For what it is, I was surprised it had such a low towing capacity?

Don't get me wrong, I owned Dodges for nearly 30 years. But in the 2500s, they have the same crap front steering and same problems they have had since 1994.

Guts - If they actually knew what guts they put in them. Just google 3.21/3.55 axle mishap :nonod:

Glory - Driving a '13 for 6,000 plus miles and getting refunded for all aftermarket accessories plus msrp to msrp swap. Taking a SRT8 Dodge Charger Superbee of the showroom floor plus a check for the difference and getting a Silverado.

Ram - Run Away Man

They don't make the 3.55's any more. I got the Ram 1500 Limited with coils and air suspension. Best riding truck. Period.

I wonder why? Best riding great but what about everything else a truck should do? What about service after the sale? Did you get the crooked bed fixed too? I wish you the best of luck and hope you never have to deal with what I did.

Yeah everything went good. The bed was fine, and I checked out everything from a to z when I bought it. Look, there are no perfect trucks on the market as of right now.

GM - shit rattles, shakes, etc...

Ram - paint issues

Ford - ecoboost engine issues, rust issues, cheap interior

Tundra- cheap interior, iffy looks, bouncy ride

Titan - sucks

I'm most likely going to hop into the new F150 when it comes out. I like the look of it.

In the 90s when I moved my own equipment I used the dodge the most 30000 combined load. 1991,94, 95 96. The 95 and 96 were v 10s. They did the job well, no wind no rattles. We did use Fords too after they came out with the powerstroke. The big difference was the Cummings couldn't beat it easy to mod run for ever. My main run around 1/2 ton was Gmc or Chevy. MY two brothers Dodge, Dad Dodge, Mom Ford, Wife imports when Impala went front drive. Conversations are always fun when we all get together.

My fishing buddy has a 2013 dodge ram 5.7 hemi. We were looking at his owners manual and comparing it to my 2014 chevy Silverado 5.3 owners manual. The dodge has 16 plugs that have to be changed every 30000 miles. That is crazy. The Silverado has 8 plugs change them somewhere around 96000 miles. That alone I would not buy one. Besides that the inside looks very cheep. And I get way better gas mileage. No way I would choose a dodge ram.

16 plugs every 30k miles? That can't be right.

That's what I thought. But I read it twice that's crazy 16 plugs every 30000 miles. It's in the owners manual. Also on the front page it says do not put an overhead camper on this truck. Way to go dodge

They've had platinum plugs for some time now. Change interval is 100k. As for the camper, can't say I care but I don't blame them. In-bed camper would likely exceed the payload rating.

Edit-

Interesting, the photo I used was from a 2014 manual but a 2013 does show every 30k. Oh well. If it's every 30k then they must be copper plugs which are cheap anyhow.
