Upgrades

I was wondering if anyone has some advice on some modifications I want to do to my 2002 GMC Z71.

The first upgrade is a throttle body spacer. Second is a Keystone fiberglass hood with a functional ram intake Third is a mass air flow sensor. Right now it looks like the hood is the most expensive. Is the hood really worth the money and time?   I would like to thanks verybody in advance for the input.

Pete, some of the easiest (in terms of installation) and least expensive (somewhat) mods to do are as follows:

1. Intake - freeing up the air will allow for better combustion,

equaling more power.

2. Exhaust - freeing up the exhaust will release backpressure

on the exhaust valves, also giving better performance.

3. PCM chip/reprogrammer - allows for better performance

through better computer signals (air/gas ratio, shifting, etc).

These three areas are most focussed on, and there are various companies that offer a wide arrange of products for every taste and bank account.   As for mods that you are interested in, I think your money is better spent on looking for the intake/exhaust/pcm, as these are proven performance enhancements.  The TBI spacer is not a proven enhancement, although some may disagree.

Whatever you decide, make sure to research every possibility, as it maximizes the money spent.  Good luck. :thumb:

I agree with Solo.

Get a cold air kit, free up the exhaust, and get a pcm tuner or custom programming.  From there, noticable performance gains get pretty involved(heads, cam, NOS, supercharger).

I would stay away from the "gimicks". (spacers, foils, etc.)

I am fond of the Goodmark hood available for GM trucks.  I do not have any experience with Keystone.  I wouldn't buy a hood for a purely performance gain.  I would think it would be mostly cosmetic/clearance gain.
