Dual Electric Fans

Recommended Posts

I heard alot of guys say that going from a crank driven fan to an electric will see a big increase in hp, how much and HOW MUCH will it cost per hp?  Who, what and where do i get a set up and what are the alternatives like can you piece a system and what are the cfm needs for my 5.3L?

Thanks Rob

From the August 2002 Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road

"Flex-a-lit has a new big fan for big trucks.  The fullsize tgruck fan features dual 15-inch fans tha tpull 5,500 cubic feet of air per minute and allow you to remove your power-robbing mechanical fan for better performance and mileage.  The fans come with a variable speed control module that operates the fans at 60-100 percent power depending on engine temperature.  The new fan is avaliable for most '97-01 F*rd trucks and '92-01 GM trucks, as well as others and universal applications.  Information Flex-a-lite, 800/851-1510, www.flex-a-lite.com"

I've heard many good things about switching and plan to do it in the future.

i did it to my s-10 4cyl. made a huge difference in throttle response and acceleration, plus it brought out more of the engine sound and no more "air wooshing" sound the engine driven fan makes. i also removed the fan shroud since its no longer needed, and it makes accessing the motor easier. what i did was i got two fans(a 16" and a 14" fan) and run a thermostatic control off of the ECT sensor, and a relay off of the A/C compressor, diode protected the A/C side, wired them up together, and have a great, reliable system.
