Heated seats not working

Recommended Posts

t has to be colder than 32° for the seats to turn on I believe. As the previous poster stated, they are on during remote start but unless you are sitting in the seat the cushions will not get warm.

2014 Sierra SLT 4x4 crew cab. Bottom cushion seat heaters on both front seats have failed. Dealer has indicated that there are multiple suppliers/models of these heated seat components even within the same model year. New heaters are on order but it has been 3 weeks already and no seat heaters have arrived at the dealer. Still Waiting......

My truck has been at the dealer for 7 days and still not ready for the heated seats but they are not fixing my passenger just the driver. I guess Is a really nice truck. But I wish I didn't have to be at the dealer so many times.

My driver's side bottom quit working after about 9 months of ownership, and about 10-12 uses. Even though it's cold now, I'm not leaving my truck at the dealer for several days to get the issue fixed, especially if there are parts supply issues.

I admit I haven't read this entire thread but my last truck had a similar problem. Heated seats didn't work *most* of the time when I wanted to use them but always worked when I took it in for service. Ended up being that when the dealer was turning on the seats to inspect them, they always did so with the door open. The open door allowed circulation of the air under the seat and they worked fine. When I used the seats it was while I was driving and the door/windows closed. Turned out one of the heating elements over-heated in that situation when they were first engaged and were purposely shutting down as a precaution.

Cliff Notes: make sure the dealer is inspecting with the doors/windows closed.

Dropped my truck off tonight as the passenger seat intermittently was working, and now completely is not working at all. They told me that modules? are what is the fault but they need to remove the seat to find which one is at fault. They did give me a loaner truck and as the dealer is quite a ways from me I hope they can get it fixed without multiple trips waiting for parts etc. Hopefully they can get it figured out, obviously at 9 pages this seems to be a fairly common issue.

Good point on the 9 pages Erik. Hopefully GM is following.

My truck will be ready to pick up on 1/15/15. One day shy of two work weeks for the driver side heated seat back. All together between the two times the truck has been in for the drivers seat it's been about 3 1/2 weeks. If it is fixed for good this time great, if it is not.....................I guess I am just not sure what my next move will be.

^^^ Hopefully they are paying attention. The issues becomes for me when you pay this much for a vehicle, you expect the best and expectations are higher than any other vehicle I have purchased. So far my dealer has been wonderful with everything, so I am really hoping they can get this resolved, its more of a nuisance than anything having to take time to go to the dealer with an insanely busy schedule.

I think what baffles me is the fact that GM lets these trucks go to market knowing that there are issues. I can't imagine these things not showing up in quality control testing. It's bad enough if they're not testing as needed, but it's even worse if they let the trucks hit the roads knowing the failure rates will be high.

Well great. Guess I have to join the group. I noticed my ass was freezing this morning and I had both heaters turned on. I'm almost afraid to bring it in because it sounds like it takes a long time to get it resolved and even then there isn't a really good solution.

OK, I picked up my truck and it just so happens that I had to make a 450 mile trip so it gave me a chance to make sure the drivers seat was fixed. It was fixed and heated up but it sure doesn't get as warm as my other cars. Since the paperwork was not ready when I picked up my truck, I went back to the dealer the next day to talk to the service manager as to what they had to do to correct the problem. He asked me if I wanted to talk to the mechanic and of course I said "sure." The mechanic told me that Chevy/GM doesn't allow them to simply pull the heating element and order a new one. Chevy corporate must see testing results before they will approve warranty work otherwise the dealer has to eat it. The mechanic said that the new seats don't work like the older seats which typically can get very hot and will blow you out of the car/truck if you leave them on for prolonged periods. The new seats work through a modulator which provides pulsating juice to the elements rather than a constant flow. Also the cooled seats are a factor as well. The cooled seats have a bladder that goes between the heating element and the seat cushion so naturally the heating element does not mount as close to the seat cushion as a non-cooled seat. I didn't ask him since I have cooled seats but I assume that the heated seats without the cooled seat option runs the same pulsating design. Lastly, the mechanic said that the new style (modulating) heated seats will never get as hot as the old style heated seats and that Chevy said that people are just going to have to learn to live with it. So, the bottom line is if you are use to nice hot heated seats on another or previous vehicles, your 2014 and newer Chevy/GM truck is not going to heat up as well. That is rather disappointing.

Henry.

Had my 2014 sierra SLT CREW since last spring.

AT FIRST THE HEATED SEATS WERE WORKING PERFECTLY ( THROUGH ALL HEAT RANGES ( LO, MED, HIGH ) INCL THE BACK HEAT FEATURE.

I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE COLD ALBERTA PRAIRIES OVER THE HOLIDAYS ( -20'F ) , THEY WORKED FINE FOR A FEW DAYS IN THE COLD.

THEN, WHEN I NEEDED THEM, NO HEAT ON THE DR SIDE AND BARELY ANY ON THE PASS SIDE.

TOOK IT TO THE SELLING DEAL UPON RETURNING HOME & THEY WROTE ON THE W.O. "EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT OK" ??

OFF TO ANOTHER GM DEALER & THEY AGREED WITH ME, THE SEAT ARE "SHORTED OUT".

ONE DAY WAIT FOR NEW HEATING PAD FOR DR SIDE & IT IS NOW FIXED ALTHOUGH NEVER AS GOOD AS IT WAS WHEN I FIRST GOT THE TRUCK.

I BORROWED AN OLD 10YR OLD ACCORD ( WHILE MY TRUCK WAS IN FOR SERVICE ) & THE HEATED SEATS IN IT WERE FABULOUS, VERY WARM !

BTW THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE ACCORD WERE ALSO MUCH BETTER THAN MY NEW SIERRAS :(

WHATS UP GM ???
