Steve-O's Silvy Build Thread

Haha thanks man. The truck should run a 12.4-12.5 on the motor with the tune dialed. I'd be happy with a 11.50 pass on the bottle with a 100 shot.

The intake isn't bare aluminum. It's actually painted with silver engine enamel. I'm not really having an issue with heat soak so I'm going to leave it like this for a while.

Ya I would say at least a second quicker with 100 shot, pretty cool anyhow. Any plans for boost? If you added 12 pounds that thing would be insane!!

Ya I think the intake looks just fine too, paint doesn't make you go faster lol.

What's up with the tuning? Playing with no2 staging? Or timing?

Might play with boost in the future. I like to keep it simple, so a pretty stout N/A combo and some additional power on demand with the nitrous is pretty easy.

The tuning issues I was having was with the etc vs coolant temp table. I had to set it much higher to keep it from stumbling just before the shift. Playing with the shift point, shift firmness and timing. Timing is at 28* now. Now that I know it will make a solid pass I'm going to try launching it harder. The caltracs and pinion shims got it dialed in. I had no problems spinning like i had before. my 60 ft's were only 1.90's so I should be able to make it leave a little harder.

Hey guys and gals,

I can't believe it's been a year since I have updated this thread....

Time flies when you get busy with work and 'life'.

Still have the truck, Although I feel like I have neglected it... Haven't gotten too much more accomplished on it in the last year except for converting the gauge cluster to led's and getting a set of new tires on it. (Nitto 420's in 275/60R17) Which have only seen about 100 street miles...

I do have a few mods in the works for the truck that I would like to get going on soon:

I would like to upgrade the brakes front and rear to 2005+ Tahoe/'burban and convert from the brake booster over to hydro-boost.

I have to replace the shitty ball joints in my DJM lower control arms as the boots are basically gone... Which pisses me off because they don't have more than 500 miles on them.

One of my valve covers is leaking through one of the welds. not sure if I will replace them with something different or fix and possibly powdercoat them.

That's all for now. Just wanted to start this thread back up again.

Where the hell have you been? I just brought my truck to stock height, about to lower either on Belltech spindles or a set of coilovers. Whats your opinion on that? Never lowered before. And i found out that the tire size I need isnt available in the 420S

Between being completely swamped at work and trying to fix up and sell a house, I've had my hands full.

I've heard nothing but good things about the ridetech coilovers. There are a few guys over on performancetrucks that have done the swap. The benefit it adjust-ability, not only in height but shock tuning if you went with adjustable shocks.

I've lowered with springs and spindles on different vehicles. Spindles are better if you are looking for a stock like ride because stock springs with be used. But if you are going for more performance in the handling department springs or a combo of springs and spindles would be the way to go.

I am not happy with my DJM control arms. The cheap crappy ball joint that they had are already toast after 500 miles... I already have brand new premium moog's to replace them.

I am trying to decide if I will keep the arms with the coil-overs or go with ridetech's lower control arms (way expensive...)

I really like the Nitto 420's great ride and handling with them. I might be stepping up to NT-05's and 18's here shortly.

The ridetech coil-overs are technically universal. You would need to find a length that would give you the desired ride height. Check out the thread on performancetrucks.

Just got brakes done on the truck front and rear. I upgraded the Front Calipers and rotors to the 05+ larger ones, EBC Green Stuff Pads and EBC Slotted rotors as well as Russell Performance Braided Stainless brake lines. Also painted the Calipers and Brackets to match the Chevrolet Orange on the engine. I used VHT True Orange Caliper paint which matches pretty well. Took over the shop this weekend and knocked it out. Here are a few pics from the install:

The 105,000 Mile stock brakes, Still +50% on the pads.

The truck stops much better. Just a few bed-in miles so far, but much better than before.

Why not dual piston rears off the SS and SUV's? Also you actually going to show up for the meet in June?

I was going to do the suv rears but I'm on a budget. I was also invited to be in the Truckin' magazine Throwdown next week so I wanted to make sure it would be ready.
