22" Wheel Ride Quality?

I took delivery of my truck with the GM black 22" wheels on it. The rest of the truck was 100% perfect spec. I didn't want the 22's so I had them swap them for the OEM 20" all terrain package wheels off of another truck that came in about a week after I got it.

The 22" wheels didn't ride bad at all, but when They swapped to the 20s I definitely noticed a little softer ride.

The 22s are why I fell in love with this truck. I think they ride as good if not better than my old 20's, but I do notice a difference compared to my 17" winter tires. Not stiffer, but firmer. But for me....well worth it No regrets!.

When order the 22" wheels, can you order them separate and still get the stock wheels that would normally come with it? Or is the price of the 22s higher when ordered separately?

You can buy them from the dealer parts dept and have stock wheels, but they aren't cheap doing it that way

Just like almost anything else on a forum, the difference in ride quality is probably completely blown out of proportion. It is probably barley noticeable.

Barley noticeable? I thought it was wheat.

I've had both 22" and 20". As long as you use a tire with the same rating as the factory tire most people can not tell the difference. A lot of people install different tires and end up with a "LT" tire. Regardless of what size wheel you have if you go to a LT tire it requires a lot more air pressure giving you a much stiffer ride. I always try to stick with a P metric or XL tire when possible. When I had 22's I swapped the factory rubber for some Nitto Terra Grapplers in a LT tire. It required 45PSI to run at the vehicles weight. The ride was much harder. On my new truck I went with the Terra Grappler again but got the XL rating that runs at 32 PSI just like the factory tires. I can't tell a difference.

You'll be unlikely to tell the minor diffeence between 20" and 22" ride quality - especially since these trucks are now designed and tuned to handle the larger wheels. Going from 17" or 18" to 22" would be noticeable, but not 20s. Older models had much harsher rides with large tires because the suspension wasn't really designed to carry that much weight at the tires.

So im guessing the price for the 22s on the build a truck site are just upgrade prices, so how much do they run to buy them outright?

ChevyZ71LTZ - I just bought a set, I'd figure +/- $500 per wheel when running your economics. They aren't easy to find, most of the factory 22's are on dealer constraint, you can only get them by ordering your truck with them. That said, there are a few out there if you work the internet via Ebay, Craigslist, Forums, etc.

20s and 18s for sle/ z-71 run around 500-600 a pop over parts counter....
