LED Aftermarket Reverse Lights / Pods

Recommended Posts

I had a set of these http://www.rigidindustries.com/led-lighting/98002 installed about 2 months ago. Now they don’t work when I put the truck in reverse, but they do work when I use the bypass switch and manually turn them on. My Factory back up lights don’t work either. There is no power at the tail lights to the back up lights. Bringing the truck in to the dealer Monday, but already he is blaming the “aftermarket accessories”. Rigid has no idea what caused it…… I can see this is going to be a real F***show, and will probably be paying out of pocket.

You check the fuse box?

Who installed them?

From personal experience, the most likely cause is the manner/method they were wired... not GM / Rigid part failures.

I checked all the obvious myself, fuses, connections, ground wires, etc.

Took it back to the shop that installed them, and let me add that they are very reputable people and have been in the business for many years, both selling and installing custom aftermarket accessories. They spent 2 hours re-tracing wires and installed items and even testing factory stuff and they couldn’t get either the Rigid’s or the factory reverse lights to work. This is the point where I called the dealer to bring it in.

Gotcha. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it all works out for you.

They were wired up to Rigid’s specs / instructions, it is a reputable shop that has been selling and installing for many years. the power tooth eights when the truck is put into reverse comes from a tap to the reverse light bulbs at the tail lights. The Rigids work when i use the switch to turn them on manually, but there is no power at all to the factory reverse lights.

I hope so too, the dealer is already blaming the Rigids for the failure and I can see it is going to be a boxing match with them!

Thanks, Moto !

And to be honest I am F***ing pissed about this. I go through this time and time again. People put all kinds of accessories on their vehicles, fabricate and engineer their own ideas as well as standard PNP stuff, and i plug a charger into the cigarette lighter and blow the whole truck up!!!……. never fails.

I wonder if your guy installed a diode between the factory wiring and the switch/Rigid's. If not, the power can cross-feed back into the stock wiring and cause a factory fuse to blow.. or worse.

Regardless of the cause, because you tapped the reverse wiring, it's unlikely you can force them to honor warranty. Hope it doesn't come to that..

Just read post #120 I believe that I post and run all the wires that way. and make sure it a 3 way switch. 2 switch won't work. And rigid a good company but they do not want to be liable if you flick reverse lights at people on the road. Then you can't say we'll they had it. So your gonna have to do it yourself. But you have all of gm forum to help you
