[SEMA] Introducing the Chevrolet Silverado Cheyenne Concept

Recommended Posts

I'm assuming the main point of this truck is to go fast in a straight line. For that a solid rear axle is best. Fewer moving parts, tough, and fairly light.

Independent suspension has little effect on towing capacity. The problem with independent in the rear is it decreases payload in the bed and the tongue weight the truck can carry. Not to mention with independent you have some change in angles when it's loaded down, where with a solid axle, you don't.

The Expedition may tow but for one reason or another they don't sell at all. GM dominates the segment. I once read that all other large SUV sales combined can't touch GMs sales.

Back on topic, they wouldn't do something as outlandish as IRS, as the truck sits this is essentially a parts bin creation aside from the carbon fiber parts that will never be used in production.

People must've finally realized that the only thing that rusts faster than an Expedition is a '76 Pinto ...

Sad G.M. has no equal to the Raptor or can buy a high HP V-8 in a SB reg Cab. I can with Toyota, Nissan and the Titan which I beleive is stronger than the advertized HP, Ford or Dodge do. Not a fan of Ford but...when I window shop one of thier lots vs G.M. it is clear they have a product marketing team in touch with the truck buying public wants and visual sells. Ford has nicer paint and trim options, V8's with more than 355 hp and niche models (Raptor) G.M. on the other hand plain vanilla stuff. I'm not paying 40K + for a plain jane truck. G.M. has teh lightest FS trucks just need some hp and trim/paint options and will take the lead back from Ford.

Just heard from a buddy about that turbo TRIPLE cylinder 1.0 they're coming out with - that'll probably end up in the Colorado before the V6 does.

Where's the twin turbo V8??? :dunno:

Browsing the Ford lot, I'm impressed with everything they've got this year from trucks all the way down to that little turbo Focus. Good lookin' stuff. Just don't know how reliable any of it is. I know my neighbor's been in and out of the dealership with Ecoboost problems - he almost got killed passing a car in upstate VT when the thing decided to kill all boost. Dealer can't even find the problem. Nice having a $50k truck you can't trust!! :shakehead:

I've had my share of problems with my Silverado, though. I know I don't want the lightest truck - lightest seems to mean "easiest to crumple into a tinfoil ball". I backed into a sapling at less than walking speed, and tweaked the box so bad it had to go on the frame machine for an hour ...wtf ... :freak: Doing most of the work myself, the total was still over $2,200 ...

That's pretty awesome! I think its a waste removing the tow hitch. Its a truck first and needs to remain utilitarian. Otherwise I'd buy a car...

Anyway I'd take those seats and put them in my double cab right now! Those are bitchin.

I am wondering if they are going to make this truck. I heard if it comes out it can be ordered in a regular and double door cab. I would like to see a console and a six speed manual transmission.

I'd say it is a start... I just wish GM would do exactly what Ram is doing with the Express. There are so many guys my age that can't afford a 45K truck that would like a high HP, low options, RWD truck to have fun with. I actually considered buying a RWD Ram Black Express and having a beater truck for the winters but there are still too many things I'm not comfortable with in that truck.

All those wont happen. It was designed to be regular cab to compete with the Ram R/T and F150 Tremor. Also will only come with auto since the manual trans in these trucks is dead.

But they won't .... because they have no spine to stand up to government regulations & the unions.

By the time those 2 entities get through with it, I'd be willing to bet it'll be closer to the cost of a new Corvette .... $60k will seem "cheap" by comparison.
