[SEMA] Introducing the Chevrolet Silverado Cheyenne Concept

... and 80's ... and 70's. I think the 80's took the cake for pathetic power though. Electronic carburetors ... LOL!! What a joke that was.

But in the 80's you had Bostronic injection on some imports, which is why they thrashed anything domestic. Lots of innovations from Germany.

I think the sport truck scene is best left to the aftermarket. Get the same amount of money you would give straight to GM to Hennessey or another builder instead and they can give you a lot more for the money. With the offroad models it's a different deal because of the body and frame modification (or lack of frame modification on a Raptor  ) that makes it practical for Ford to sell the truck.

True - that's one aspect of the 80's I miss. Nothing today can touch an 80's or early 90's throttle-body injected 5.7 pickup off the line ... but they fall flat on their faces over 4k. 385 ft. lbs. must've felt damn fast, especially in those days.

Just add the 6.2 and 3.73 gearing onto the existing regular cab option list. Not a difficult concept unless you are an auto manufacturer lol.

I agree. Making the 6.2L, and 3.73's an option for the regular cab is the best thing they could do.

Late 80's were not bad. GM had TPI Irocs that responded well to Vortecs & Paxtons but the Mustang 5.0 LX ruled the day. 12K for a new lightly optioned 5.0 Mustang, adding a 3k Vortec or Paxton and you were running 11's in the 1/4 for 15k investment.

I was thinking in stock, unmodified terms - off the showroom floor, most were a joke, especially on paper. The Mustang & Iroc did haul .. but it's all relative. The big torque made them feel fast .. and they were put up against the even more pathetic engines of the mid to late 70's. They did respond very well to modifications as you stated, but you were always limited by the FI system, at least with TBI.

Drive the new Camaro SS and you've got big torque AND big HP from 1,000 rpm to 6k. Throw a cam in with a tune, and that engine REALLY comes alive!

Technology can be a wonderful thing ... when it's working as designed.

We will have more from last night after I correct my file format mistake. Note to all with a DSLR, dont shoot in RAW if you do not have photoshop. I had to buy it and im still up at 12:30 am trying to download it from Adobe. It can ruin your night
