issue Popping noise from under the bed area?

I have the same noise, and got on the forum today to see if I could find a thread where others are having the same issue. I have a 2014 GMC AT 3,654 miles. I only notice in the morning when I back out of my driveway, and then leaving next 2 stop signs accelerating. I just went outside and bounced on my hitch and it made the noise once then nothing. I believe my problem will be the shocks. Even my wife new it was something in the suspension when she heard it, but take it to the dealer and they can't duplicate.

 

Bad batch of Rancho shocks? or just POS?

Think it's a bad batch of Rancho shocks since they had to replace them on more then just mine. It will be a pain to get them to duplicate. My suggestion would be to allow them to drive it home. Also I would open a ticket with GM so they know you working on the issue with GM also. Reason being I had to take it to the dealer 4times in order to get it fixed.

Maybe it's the auto locking rear diff creaking? Reason I say that is mine does it on sharp turns when it's cold and sounds like a posi unit when it chatters when you don't have enough of the posi additive in it...

I get the same issue but only on rough roads or off road conditions. I haven't got around to taking it to the dealer yet because I've been trying to figure out exactly where it is coming from first. To me it sounds like the drivers side.

 

I'll take a look at the skid plate this week to see if that's the issue. I'll also listen for the shocks.

 

I don't think its related to turning because I'm getting this the whole time at lower speeds off road. How many people are getting the same?

I dont think the shocks are to blame. I bounced up and down in the bed of the truck and the shocks sound fine.

To me it seems like a "creak" sound from the body mounts... but I dont know for sure..

I've read through all the posts on this thread and it sounds like I should have posted my problem here instead of on the thread where I originally posted (even though it's on this website). Anyway, it sounds like I have the same problem as everyone here. So far I have 1400 miles on my new 2014 GMC Sierra and it sounds like the popping noise is getting louder. I took it to a GMC dealership and they could hear the noise but couldn't find it. I was basically told just to live with it for now...because they don't know much about these new trucks yet. I find that totally unacceptable...especially since it's not the only problem I'm having. The cab of the truck has rattles (coming from the passenger side) when driven over any semi rough road...it has a gawd-awful smell sometimes when the heater is turned on. However, the popping noise is the most concerning. When I accelerate it sometimes pops so loud you can feel the vibration up through the floor board...or sometimes when I d-accelerate you can feel it when it down shifts. I've opened a ticket with GM yesterday. We'll see how that goes. Either way, I'm becoming more and more dissatisfied with this vehicle and becoming sorry that I even bought it. It's embarrassing when people ride in it and every has to ask what the popping noise is. I'm about ready to get rid of it and I've only owned it for 1 month now. A vehicle that costs almost 50K should not be having issues. Perhaps it time to switch to Ford!

Ha good luck with Ford; I had far more problems with my last Ford right out of the box.

 

Overall my truck is better than any other truck I've ever owned. With that said the noise is definitely getting worse on my truck and the colder the weather the more I hear it. I'm sitting at a little over 12k miles right now.

This is exactly what I was thinking but I put a body lift on my truck and made sure I paid extra attention to it and came up empty. Mine has more of a squeaking sound when I bounce the bed up and down but more of a knock/clunk sound while driving at low speeds so I'm going to look at the shocks again.

Locker should only clunk in if there's wheel spin.

 

I don't know much about the new trucks, but my first impulse would be crank the spare tire as tight as possible. Happened to me a few times on my 2006, til the stupid winch jammed and I just chained the tire in the bed.

 

I would trade the shocks out too and see if that helps, by trade I mean not OEM. I don't understand why people are so attached to the crappy ranchos.

If it is in fact the spare tire I would feel pretty dumb for not looking sooner, I will have to inspect that this afternoon. I would guess that it isn't just because I also get a squeaking noise too but will definitely look.

When you're turning the outside wheel is spinning faster than the inside wheel (similar to wheels slipping). Have you ever heard a posi unit creak and pop and chatter when there wasn't enough posi additive in the oil? It can get pretty bad and it will definitely do it on turns on dry pavement not just when wheels are slipping...

I can't speak to the noise that anyone else that has posted on here is getting...but the speculation from "BringTheRain403" is about the most logical as far as the noise I am experiencing with my truck. Because the popping I'm getting seems to happen not only when I accelerate or de-accelerate...but I've noticed it sometimes as I go around a corner. Not only that...it seems like it's coming from the rear end differential. I will certainly mention that to them when I take it back to the dealership next week.

Find an empty parking lot and do tight figure 8's. That will work the differential. Do it cold and see what happens...

I'm sticking with the theory that it is something rubber - a bushing
somewhere. Mine only does it when it is wet outside. Moist even. Dry
and cold, no noise. Dew and/or rain, I've got it. Sometimes even lasts
a little longer than the first turn. Definitely the most noise when
turning to the left. Got to be shock/spring/body mount related.

Mine does it as well. And it's only in the morning for the first few stops and turns. I have a Z71 with rancho shocks. First time I heard it i thought it was something moving in the bed of the truck. Then I even thought it was my ball hitch banging because it does fit pretty loose in the receiver hitch. Turns out wasn't either one of those. I've had a 2010 Silverado that had the slip yoke problem needing grease and this isnt the same. With the slip yoke it would pop every time I stopped and started moving. You could almost feel it threw the truck. It did it all the time not just in the morning. Before reading this post I was thinking a bushing as mentioned or even a caliper pin on the brakes. The whole reason I haven't taken it to the dealer is because I know they will say they can't duplicate it or can't find anything wrong. Dealerships have gotten to lazy. If their isn't a service bulletin on what the problem is they won't even attempt to figure it out.
