There's no performance increase. It just disables AFM.

Right I understand it doesn't change the performance of the vehicle like a tune does. I'm wondering more about the performance of the unit. Like how well does it work, are people having any issues with it post beta testing on the 2014's, how does the truck feel in V8 all the time versus switching to V4 when AFM is still enabled.....things like that. Sorry for the confusion.

It works fine. Disables AFM. the only thing I ran into is that if left in overnight I would often get a "low battery-start engine now." message. However, my battery tested to be fine so it was just the module causing a disruption in signal. Not really an issue, the truck started and ran 100% normal, just got the message several times.

When did you originally buy your Range unit? It appears beta testing was completed in late March so maybe they've addressed some of these hiccups?

I actually bought a used one from a friend and it caused two messages that was brake assist error and stabilitrack error but Range sent me an updated one and all is good since. I actually prefer staying in 8 cyl mode though alot of the time I barely noticed it swap.

In January. I contacted Range several times to see if thee were any differences in the beta-testing unit vs the post-beta-testing unit. No reply.

Doesn't matter though, since I already sold my unit and I am thinking of going Blackbear.

Edit:

I just found this tho. They will reflash older modules for free.

If you want to know how it feels, put the truck in M5 and it won't go into V4 mode however you won't have 6th gear. Good for driving around town though.

M6 will go into V4 mode.

Interesting I didn't know that. I will give that a try for sure thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been "Beta testing" the Range AFM for about 7 months now and its worked very well. Just last week my engine light came on and I got a "Service power steering" and "Service 4wd", but both were working fine. I drove the truck home, parked it and removed the Range. About 30 minutes later I started the truck back up and the check engine light was off and i did not receive any messages regarding the power steering and 4wd. I then e-mailed Range about what happened and within 2 days I had a tracking number for a updated replacement Range unit being sent to me. The moral of the story is, although there are going to be glitches because of how new these trucks are, the people from Range have been very good about answering my questions and sending me an updated version with no questions asked!!!

Note: I am Beta testing for the 4.3...

I recently got a Range Version 5 from them and it worked fine for about 2 weeks then I got a power steering warning and stabilitrac as well as two codes one for transmission and the other for communication. I cleared codes after removing the Range and all has been ok since ???? May sell the Range as I like it but don't want to continue fighting codes/ warnings

I have a question for you all. I am new to Chevy. This is my first ever chevy but I can be an **** given the right motivation.

My question is this. If you guys really do want 100% of the time V8 driving, why are you paying for and or modifying the V8 truck you bought?

I JUST got mine this week so I have no impression of the AFM system yet to be concerned enough. IF and only if I decide that I want my V8 to run as a V8 I will be running to my stealers service department and demanding that my V8 be made to run as a V8.

I bought a V8 truck and expect a V8 performance. I promise you, and would bet my truck on it, if I want all the time V8 Chevrolet would be happy to make that happen for me free of charge. I am that kind of an ****.

Have any of you even tried to ask Chevrolet to fix the problem for you? If it is not a leased truck, then you should have NO problem getting them to accommodate your wishes.
