Range Technology V8 AFM Disable Module

Recommended Posts

I have tried to purchase a Range for my truck but have not been successful. Auto Anything is not taking orders because of delivery, and amazon is not for the same reason. Tried to contact Range by phone the other day but could not get an answer. Is this product still available and if so where were you able to purchase it?

I have one for sale if you want to buy it? I sold my Silverado that I had and do not have a need for it now. Let me know. I will sell it for $125.

I am one of the Range users that had issues with it on the 2014 trucks. After about 600 miles I started getting the "Service Stabilitrac" and "Service Brake Assist" messages and after I cleared those out I got them again along with the "Service Piwer Steering" and "Service Trailer Brake" messages in the DIC. I removed the device and had the dealer check everything out when I took it in to have them fix a rattle. They couldn't find any issues with ant of the systems but they did say there were 100's of Loss of Communication errors in the computer. They cleared all codes and didn't have anything else to say about it.

I quit using the Range and will be sending it back. Range technologies has some more homework to do on this before they can say that it's ready for market. The device sells for $199. Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $50 and go get a custom tune from a reputable GM performance shop. Then you will be able to turn off AFM in addition to having your engine and transmission tuned for a much better driving experience.

Wow GM is really starting to be a PITA with their PCMs. This is why I bought a 6.2... So I don't have to bother with anything in the ECU, tune or otherwise. Catback and done.

No one else was better. Chrysler had pretty heavy encryption that took a few years to get through and with the EcoBoost in the Fords they're even more sensitive to tinkering, I want to say that someone posted a TSB saying even a cat back can be problematic on those because it can cause the truck to run lean.

I'm still kinda new to american vehicles. I used to tune ECU's in Mitsubishi evos and DSMs with no I'll effects except more safe power and better MPG

I dont think that was related to the Range unit. People have experienced the "loss of communication" errors, without ever using a Range module.

That said, I've had my Range for a few months now. No problems. runs great.

Fondupot,

I'm glad you haven't had any issues and hopefully you won't. However, we will have to agree to disagree that it is the Range device that was causing those issues with my truck. It's odd that I didn't get those messages prior to using the Range device, I got them several times in the short time that I did use it, and I haven't gotten any more of them since I quit using the device. I'm going to say that it is without a doubt the Range device. With that being said, it may affect each truck differently and maybe mine was one of the few that didn't like it for some reason. All I can say is now I am loving my custom tune and am somewhat glad that the Range didn't work for me so that I would pursue getting the tune instead.

Are you including the loss of communication errors? I got the impression from your post that you didn't know about these until you went to the dealer. If your code reader doesn't report them, how do you know these errors are not recurring?

glioma,

I was referring to the "Service Stabilitrak" and "Service Brake Assist" messages. I didn't know about the loss of communication errors until the dealer looked into the matter. I haven't received any more messages in the DIC since my service visit and I have not been using the Range since that time.
