Range Technology V8 AFM Disable Module

Recommended Posts

Vince's tunes cannot be seen by a tech 2 or the new laptop way even when it's loaded on the ecu. You can set it up so that when you hit cruise control your tune shuts off (or any button you so desire) This being said, Vince is a great programmer, but not the best tuner. I always found the best route was to get the trifecta selecta tune as a base and ask Vince to leave it unlocked so you can overlap and customize with HPT. I don't see how a dealer can say anything about having an ecu reflash. I guess if your that paranoid about it you can just get a spare ecu and tune on that one and keep your stock one for when you need it.

That's what I've been told, he codes them so load different than let's say diablo. He actually did a tune for my 2ss Camaro, then I did a sh!t ton of other things to it, headers exhaust, cold air and he left the tune unlocked. Horse power Inc in Dallas, re-tuned it after the changes using HP tuner (i think) I've been pleased with Vince's tunes.

If anyone would like to have the Range V8 device, let me know. I bought mine in August. I just sold my truck last week. I am selling the device. $125.00. It will come in the original box also. Let me know. Thanks.

can someone that has this Range... explain exactly how it makes the truck better ?

It disables AFM so the truck stays in V8 mode. They also have other options to optimize the 4 cyl mode if you'd like to try and squeak a bit more efficiency from the truck. While it won't increase performance like a tune can, this will disable the AFM and not leave an electronic trail like tunes generally can.

does anyone have an idea how much mpg would be lost in a 5.3 if the truck was always in V8 mode?

How about none? I have had mine for about a month now and haven't really experienced any loss. Kinda shocked me but very pleased. Of course YMMV.

Today at the Midas-shop the mechanic asked me what the devise is plugged into the OBD port.

Since I'm tired to explain it all the time I ended up saying: "It is an external battery for my cell phone. It extends the life 'range' of the phone."

He bought it.

lol

so long

FYI. I have been using the Range device on my 2013 Camaro SS for 6 months and it has worked flawlessly. This is also used on my Silverado 5.3 with AFM. It stops the afm from engaging at any speed and is completely undetectable. I went to the dealer for warranty work and simply unplugged it and put it in the glovebox. A scan was done for another problem and no mention of the device was made. It is returned to stock as soon as you remove it. There are tons of discussions on the Camaro forums about it. Also their customer service is excellent. IMHO..

You almost sound like a commercial, I take it you are selling the product

Range is a vendor on here and all of their guys have "@Range" after their name. He's just someone who is happy to have gotten rid of the garbage AFM interference.

No, not selling anything, this was just my opinion based on my personal experience. That should be what the forum is for, the sharing of ideas etc. If you are happy with your truck then that is ok, some of us just like to experiment.

The other obvious benefit to disable AFM is getting rid of the V4 "lawn tractor" sound from the exhaust when an aftermarket system is installed. I've heard the 2014 models have some magic valve in the exhaust that cuts down on the drone, but getting rid of the annoying performance and valve damage issues with AFM only makes sense to me.
