Hi Guys,

I just picked up my Range AFM for my new 2015(sept) Sierra 1500 6.2L 4x4 crewcab. For some reason every time I start my truck the Range is NOT on. I have to pull it out and plug it back in, and then it works(gets blue lights and doesn't go into V4). Does anyone else have this problem??? I assume this is not a normal thing. If so, please advice.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I had an intermittent issue similar to yours on my previous 2010 Silverado except the blue lights would come on and it would still slip into V4. Its a connection issue and I haven't had any issues with my 2015 using the same device. You can email RANGE and let them know, if its under a year old I think they'll support it.

Just bought a new 1500 Sierra 2015 and at 1000 miles oil is needed. Is this a result of the AFM? If so, Does the Range technology device stop oil consumption. If disabling the AFM, I guess that

will also cut the miles per gallon. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

At that low mileage, maybe someone just screwed up and didn't put enough in? I would top it off and get the level right, and then begin to monitor it and see if you're actually losing anything or not.

Ok, has anyone successfully used the Range AFM disabler on a 2016? I got mine yesterday and am having this same issue on my 2016 Silverado 5.3. If it's already installed when I start the truck, it does nothing... but if I unplug it and reinstall it (with the engine running), it works.... until i turn the truck off again.

According to the sticker on the box, this is version 7.7R4, dated August 10th, 2016.

I almost ordered a Range but after researching I ordered a hand held programmer that allowed me to set a minimum speed for the AFM to be active. Currently I have it set at 50mph. I bet if range could figure out a way to program that into their units they would be making MANY more sells. I have a dual exhaust and the V4 mode exhaust note is annoying to me at low speeds but perfectly fine at highway speeds. The highway speeds are where the AFM really does it gas saving magic so if you can set it this way it should be the best of both worlds

Living in suburbia, I use M5 for most all of my driving around home. I only use the Range AFM Disabler on long highway runs/trips. I still pull 21-22mpg on the highway in V8 mode running the Range on a truck with just over 5000 miles now..................................and thats with a truck that has almost 1000lbs. in the bed at all times. I've still not performed my first oil change yet; and the oil level on the dipstick has remained constant since bringing her home. 99% of the run time on my truck has been in V8 mode.

Probably right it should not make much difference in real world gas mileage. So far at a little over 5000 miles this CC 6.2 8spd truck has averaged right at 20mpg mostly city with lots of idle time and remote start cooldowns plus have pulled my enclosed trailer probably 4 or 500 miles. So far this is much better than my 5.3 6spd 2014 did mostly pleased with the truck but would be sweet if it would drive itself once in a while (like a google car) when I want to take a nap.

I'm considering just sending it back and adjusting the way I drive a bit; try not to be so light-footed on the pedal.

The wife and I took a trip out to Missouri wine country for dinner the other night, and I was a bit more aggressive with the throttle when I needed it, rather than easing into it the way I have been (which usually results in a few seconds of seemingly bogged down V4 mode before it kicks into V8 and does what I want it to).

About a 120 mile round trip, about a third of which was hills/curves (lots of accel/decel action), and averaged over 24mpg for the trip.

HyperTech Max Energy 2.0 part 2000 is what I use. I bought it at AutoAnything a bit over 300 bones so a lot more expensive that range but I wanted more versatility than just AFM on or off. Does not have a lot of current programming options for the 2016 models but apparently you can download upgrades for free as they become available? Not sure that I will actually use it for anything other than AFM control since when I set it for a premium fuel tune I got a DIC light after a week and immediately went back to factory tune. I suspect a bad tank of fuel as we have had a spotty gas shortage in middle TN and I suspect that my local Shell station sold me regular grade fuel for premium fuel since this happened right after my last fillup with (supposedly) 93 octane fuel. In the next few days they had a sign up that premium was no longer available that they had regular fuel only "yeah right". Probably much safer with the factory tune unless you have a proven source for premium fuel IMO

How does it elim AFM? Is it an ON/OFF option on the tuner?

I just ordered the latest Range unit but was curious how the tuner devices shut AFM off.
