Range Technology V8 AFM Disable Module

Recommended Posts

I wanted to share my experience with the Range AFM delete device. I used it for one month and it threw a code and it was a Service Stabilitrak and Service brake assist. the dealer said that nothing was wrong but it was noted as Missing history and they did ask if I plugged anything into the port. I think they are catching on to this stuff... BTW I left the Range at home and not in the console. I did tell Caitie at Range about this and she did say i had the latest greatest program but she told me to send it back and they would be happy to look at it.

Just a follow up on the Range AFM I have... I sent it back to Caitie like she asked me to do and they checked it out and I did have the 7.2 but they wound up exchanging it for the 7.3 version instead. This kind of caught me off guard because they did not have to update it but did it anyway.

My Customer Service experience was Above and Beyond expectations and this my friend is how companies are made great in my book. So anybody that is considering doing business with them you will not be disappointed.

My son recently used a Banks AutoMind to turn off AFM on his 2010 Silverado, so I inherited his Range AFM Delete unit. On the Range web site they list the code issue that Robert (07Softail) mentioned and provide instructions to send it back to have the software updated. Only cost is postage both ways. Based on the dates mentioned for their software releases, "my" unit needed updating. Sent in in and got a message from Caitie that it was already done and on its way back. Got it yesterday...man, what a difference! Forgot what it was like to have a real V8 all of the time with no hesitation. I'll give it more time, of course, but after a couple of hours driving, I am impressed. And their customer service is really good.

Hi Guys,

I just picked up my Range AFM for my new 2015(sept) Sierra 1500 6.2L 4x4 crewcab. For some reason every time I start my truck the Range is NOT on. I have to pull it out and plug it back in, and then it works(gets blue lights and doesn't go into V4). Does anyone else have this problem??? I assume this is not a normal thing. If so, please advice.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I don't use mine any more since I tuned out AFM with the Diablo Intune, but I don't recall it doing what you describe. I inherited mine from my son who had his 2010 Silvy tuned and then I contacted Range to have the software updated for my 2014 (there were some Canbus errors with previous software versions). I sent them an email from their web site and they were real helpful - free upgrade, just had to pay for shipping...anyway, I would contact them for assistance. I found them very helpful. The only problem I had with mine is that I left it installed while leaving the truck sitting for a week and it ran my battery down. And I put tape over the lights - really drove me nuts with those blue lights on at night. Reach out to Range and ask them - they will help.

It is the lifters that worry me. The system allows the lifters to collapse. Just saw a 2010 sub get a new rebuilt 5.3 because of lifters.

It was more cost effective to replace the engine than to tear the old one down for lifters. 23 hour job for lifters. Paid a little more but got a rebuilt engine. They suspect the afm causing the lifters to fail. IF I buy another GM the afm will be off from the first day.

I see the lifter problem as an opportunity really. I'd pull the cam and AFM lifters out. These engines have so much potential but they're compromised in order for AFM to work. Delete the AFM crap and you have a solid engine.

Just bought a new 1500 Sierra 2015 and at 1000 miles oil is needed. Is this a result of the AFM? If so, Does the Range technology device stop oil consumption. If disabling the AFM, I guess that

will also cut the miles per gallon. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
