Range Technology V8 AFM Disable Module

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I wanted to do a quick little write up on my first thoughts on the range tech v8 obd II plug. I have a 14 gmc sierra 5.3 and loved it just hated the bad low speed shifts and wanted the chug around a lot. This range plug has made the world of a differance! The truck is now enjoyable to drive and runs like I wanted v8 I purchased to run. Also now with my true duals and magnaflow it sounds great all the time at highway speeds and low speeds... Great going range as this products exceeds my expectations. It's like a whole new truck and I love it. Easy install. Plug it in with the truck completely off and the blue LED light will come on, and then upon start up the light will come on 5-10 seconds later and stay on.... Thanks guys any questions just ask

Personally, I think I'll wait. The range device is too much money for what it does. I'm waiting for TRIFECTA performance to get the 2014 Silverado tune finished. Vince has tuned several vehicles for me. I'd rather spend the kind of money a range cost, on a tune that allows AFM disable.

People like the Range because it leaves no trace when removed. A tune does.

IC- Well then if their happy with an apparatus they have to leave plugged in, cost almost as much as a tune and does nothing for performance, then who am I to voice my opinion.

I'm out.....

Interesting... I would like to hear more... does it just disable the AFM? nothing else? how is it "better" I like the idea of the tune / plug in device... but I'm not going to do it if can't put it back to stock or remove.

I can only imagine what the dealer would say when I have warranty issues with something engine / drive train related...

Huh?

I'm not arguing that the Range isn't cheap- but there are lots of members here who don't like the uneven power delivery with AFM but are uncomfortable with a tune because of potential warranty hassles. I wanted more from my truck so I do have a BlackBear tune and will likely hit them up if I buy a new one too. No one is trying to claim the Range as an alternative to a tune.

There are tuners out that can hide the tune, you can revert back to stock if you feel you need to. I've had 5 cars tuned by a well known tuner, currently have a 13 malibu 2.0 liter turbo tuned the car dyno'd at 319 HP with 335 foot pounds of tq (rear wheel). Drives amazing, and soon as the 14 silverado is ready it will be tuned also. I live by the motto "no risk, no reward" .

Just hate to see people throw their money away on snake oil.

Huh.... hide the tune? Um.... no. Lol. When you change parameters they aren't the stock value.... that's it. The thing is that in reality a dealer can't see a lot because they don't have program level access. They can pull data and do simple function changes but they can't rewrite the pcm. I mean they can reflash as updates arise but they don't write them.

Stuff like HP tuners and Efi live can... I use efi live and I tune lol.

If you are so worried about your useless precious warranty leave the thing alone lol. However if flashed to stock your calibration ids will be stock values and that's all that matters to gm on a warranty claim. They can't see a tune written history... well not on the gaspot trucks anyways.

To the best of my knowledge most newer GM vehicles can log when the PCM is reflashed. That said, I'd probably still do a tune since I trust the drivetrain components.

And just how do you have power to the rear wheels of a 2013 Malibu?

I agree! I know I said hidden, I should have said not easily found, my bad.

Yes it can log when it's reflashed just not sure what it tell you other than a DTG. I'll ask at my local, as they know I tune, my friends the owner and is intrigued by what I've done (tuners done) with my GM vehicles.

I'm sure your tech 2 saw nothing as nothing was written with V8 module.

Vince's tunes cannot be seen by a tech 2 or the new laptop way even when it's loaded on the ecu. You can set it up so that when you hit cruise control your tune shuts off (or any button you so desire) This being said, Vince is a great programmer, but not the best tuner. I always found the best route was to get the trifecta selecta tune as a base and ask Vince to leave it unlocked so you can overlap and customize with HPT. I don't see how a dealer can say anything about having an ecu reflash. I guess if your that paranoid about it you can just get a spare ecu and tune on that one and keep your stock one for when you need it.
