I know it's been forever but I thought I'd give an update. I've done a few things now and went back on my words of keepong it mostly stock ha ha. Right now as it sits, I've gone with American Racing 1-7/8 longtubes, built my own side exit 4" exhaust , a comp cam, NX 75 kit with different jets, a K&N intake, a circle D 2800 stall, east coast gear 4.10s front and back, and a custom HP tuners tune. Off nitrous it made 407whp and 385 lbft. Just done my first 4 runs on the dyno with nitrous this past weekend and we got it up to 486whp and 470 lbft. I went to the track before the winter and my best run was a 12.91 @ 104 MPH with a 1.71 60 ft. That had a conservative tune on it though and I was only making 391whp. I'm hoping with the nitrous to get below a 12.5 so come spring I'll post some new videos. Before the winter I would average 26mpg on the highway and about 15 in the city. For reference, I get about 2 MPG better on the highway now and only lost 1 in the city.

Thanks for all the input guys, did mine today and left the flapper in. It's sounds perfect for me, I had an 07 Avalanche with the resonator removed and a Borla XR1 muffler and the delete on this truck sounds exactly like that one did. I have the 6.2 and glad I can finally hear it, best 60 bucks I have ever spent!

I've got a few hundred miles on this mod now and still am pleased with it. I can hear a faint "helicopter" sound on the highway when it kicks into v4 mode, but it's not annoying... just noticeable. Haven't towed with it so I can't comment on drone.

Only thing that pisses me off is the "ting-ting-ting" rattle of the damn flapper at idle... makes my 50g truck sound like a jalopy tin can!

No changes in mpg but that ting- ting idle noise at idle has picked up quite a bit in mine. I will probaly put a muffler back on and take out the resonator if I can't find a fix. Really sucks because it sounds so good in the highway and at idle after startup.

Hey everyone, I'm a newbie here but wanted to say thanks for this informative thread.

I initially did a muffler delete along with the valve and tried to "live with" the drone. After 2 weeks I finally caved and went back to my muffler guy and had him re-install the valve.

Obviously I've had a chance to hear the exhaust with and without the valve and will say that it definitely sounded meaner in V8 mode without the valve. With that being said, it's still as loud when getting on the gas with the valve but IMO 75% quieter when droning (there is still a slight flutter but not like the "black hawk" sound as someone pointed out earlier.)

Ultimately I'm happier with the valve despite losing a bit of a growl when in low RPM which I will miss. Future plans are to tune the AFM out but not quite comfortable taking that plunge with only 1800 miles on the truck. :)

Anyone figure out how to eliminate the "ting ting" noise. I figured out mine is doing it when the valve closes all the way and then opens at idle and the. I also had the air rush noise at low RPM. For now I have a clamp on it that allows it to open all the way but not close completely, that has fixed all the above problems but you also get a lil V4 drone. I don't mind the drone that much but it sounds perfect when everything isn't tinking and swooshing ( best way I can describe mine). Still sounds really really close to the way my Avalanche did with the Borla installed.

Anyone know of a good shop in the Dallas/Ft Worth area (I'm in Las Colinas) that does muffler deletes?

I had mine done at B&B Muffler of Crosby and 35. I might need to go back because my exhaust is rattling when i rev it it up and then let off the gas. not sure where its coming from. could it be the flapper valve rattling ?

Update : clamped the valve open rattle stopped.

Yep mine did the same, it happens when the valve closes, seems like it closes all the way rattles then the pressure pushes it back open, then it closes, rattles and keeps repeating.
