Muffler Delete

I removed the factory muffler, the valve, and the resonator. Basically, my muffler shop just cut the factory pipe between the last converter and the muffler and removed it all. We then installed a 22" magnaflow, single in, dual outlet with custom made pipes coming straight out the back. The last 22" are 4" diameter chrome. There are absolutely no problems, except, it is not quite as loud as I had hoped. It does sound pretty good when you get your foot in it. At idle it has a very mild rumble to it. It works for me.

I have a 6.2 on order. Can you post a video of idle and under acceleration?

What

is the most porous, straight thru, joke of a muffler that flows the

most we can put in place of our muffler that is the most free

flowing/least restrictive and still count as a muffler?

I

am guessing you are wanting loud but I learned alot dealing with

exhaust on the LS motors (most recently my GTO). Best muffler out there

for power would be the Magnaflow from experience. They are quieter

though, but they do make power (it is straight through but have plenty

of sound deadening to quell noise and most importantly drone). For me it

was perfect, idles a little louder, more grunt on acceleration, WOT

sounded awesome since it was straight through but the biggest thing was

cruising it wasn't much louder than stock. Biggest thing that cause

drone are chambered mufflers (think flowmaster type). I used to get a

kick out of my buddies 5.3 with flows on it, would make a putting sound

when afm kicked in, when it wasn't it droned.Anyways in terms of power I

had a GTO buddy that couldn't break 400 at the wheels with a cam (he

had I/E/H and a mild cam), only hit 396. Told him to ditch the

flowmaster super 40's I think he had? Put on some magnaflows and hit 402

on the same dyno, similar weather (but different day).

I

know some like obnoxously loud (if you do glass packs). I don't but if I

am going to do anything it better have a gain and not ruin the DD

aspect of it. Alot of those CAI's didn't do jack unless they were a ram

air setup or something pulling cool ambient air (metal intake tubes are

the worst). Most just pulled the hot air from the engine which pulled

timing and reduced power. Some of the best filter setups out there were

done by vararam. I know tunes do a bunch for GM's to in terms of feel

and response. There was a good video I posted somewhere that someone did

on the TBSS forums that showed the throttle response stock and tuned,

insane difference.

Good luck with the mods, I will keep an eye out for the future for myself.

Glad you understand Chip. Yes, I would love to do that, but I'm sorry, posting a video is way beyond my technological prowess. However, I can tell you with all honesty and sincereity, the system I have installed is magnificent. You get a light rumble at idle, sounds pretty decent on acceleration, but not overly obnoxious, and there is absolutely no drone in the cabin at any speed. If you choose to proceed with the same set up, I believe you will be satisfied, unless you are looking for loud and obnoxious. If you are looking for it to sound like a mile performance truck, then this is it! Good luck with your decision. Sorry about the video.

This desciption sounds about perfect. I test drove the 5.3 and it sounds too quiet. I am just assuming the 6.2 will be the same. Its going to be a daily driver but want it to sound like it has 376 cubes without drone. If I want obnoxious I can drive the big block Chevelle.

Did mine today. Went ahead and got my guy to add an offset in the replacement pipe

It's not as loud as I thought it would be but as stated in other posts a "nice mellow" sound

Very Happy!!! Thanks Sporty

Hey man what shop did you use? If you're around I'd like to hear yours. I was going to wait for Corsa but I may just do this since its 1000 times cheaper lol

You did a muffler delete but left the backpressure valve in place???? Did they are least wire it open, that thing is a huge restriction in the exhaust system from the look I got when I had mine cut out. Even when it is open it is still closed some, there is a half dollar size weight on the back of the valve that sticks up a 1/2" into the exhaust stream. I bet even in the open position that thing takes up 1/4 of the space inside the pipe.

At the shop right now deleting my muffler that's it. Leaving everything else in place and going from there. If I were to take the flapper thing out I would have crazy drone correct?

Edit--- just finished it sounds sick. Perfect blend between quiet and some noise when you're in it. Can't say a true dual isn't in my future.. But this was the best 40 dollars spent yet.
